HomeMy WebLinkAbout31 Moss Road Perc Rite and Fast NotesGeneral Construction Notes "Pere -Rite" Drip Dispersal Systems 1. The system shall not be installed In wet or frozen soils. 2. Do not park, drive large equipment, or store materials on the dispersal area. No activity should occur on dispersal area other than the minimum required to install the system. 3. All installation and construction techniques shall conform to state and local codes pertaining to on-site sewage systems and the permit for the site. 4, The installation shall be in accordance with specifications and procedures as supplied by the Manufacturer of the equipment. 5. The contractor shall be certified to install this type of system and should hold a pre -construction meeting with the individuals responsible for the site design and inspections. The meeting should be held prior to the beginning of the site work to ensure protection of the site conditions and to ensure that the system is installed_ according to design. 6. If site conditions are determined to require the installation of the system to deviate from the design plans, all work shall stop Immediately and the DesignerandHealth Agent shall be notified. Any ongoing work shall be the sole responsibility of the contractor. 7. Drip tubing may be installed with a vibratory plow, a static plow, a narrow trencher (<6" width), by hand trenching, or by scarifying the surface and bedding the drip tubing in clean sand meeting the requirements for Hill material in Title 5 at 310 CMR 15.255(3) with cover consisting of sand and topsoil meeting the 6" to 12" depth requirement. The designer may indicate for the tubing to be installed up to 24" below grade. All drip tubing is to be installed parallel with the contour. Vegetative cover must be replaced .for installations where it Is removed or buried during installation. 8. All cutting of rigid PVC pipe, flexible PVC and drip tubing of size 1 1h" or smaller shall be accomplished with pipe cutters approved by Manufacturer.. No sawing of PVC, flexible PVC or drip tubing of size 1 112" or smaller is allowed. All rigid PVC pipe, flexible PVC and drip tubing in the work area shall have the ends covered with duct tape after cutting to prevent construction debris from entering the pipe. Prior to ggluing, all joints shall be inspected for and cleared of any debris. All PVC pipe and fittings In the field shall be SCH 40 All glued joints shall be cleaned and primed with PVC primer prior to being glued. All force mains shall be tested for leaks prior to being backfilled by pressurizing the system and observing for leakage. 9. The Hydraulic Unit is to be placed on a bed of 4"- 6" thick of Y4"- 1'fj" gravel for drainage. If standing groundwater is a problem In the vicinity of the Hydraulic Unit, o screened drain to daylight is - required. Cold Climate Construction Standards "Pere -Rite Drip Dispersal Systems 1. "Top feed" manifolds are to be used to allow for proper manifold drainage. Top feed manifolds are to be located slightly higher than the drip tubing. 2. All attempts should be made to place the Hydraulic Unit with an open southern exposure for warming purposes. 3. The supply and return lines shall be Installed below the frost line. The vertical sections of pipe that connect to the supply and return lines shall be insulated SCH 40 PVC pipe. Insulation shall be minimum 1/2" thick foam (or equivalent). �" Rigid Foam Insulation may be Installed under the Hydraulic Unit to protect the supply and return lines in extreme conditions. Sufficient ground cover around the hydraulic unit 1s required for insulation. All pipes entering and leaving the hydraulic unit shall elbow vertically down 90 degrees to a depth below the frost line prior to extending away from the unit horizontally. Additional insulation inside the hydraulic unit is encouraged. Insulation to consist of blue board, bagged Styrofoam, peanuts or equivalent. If fiberglass Insulation is used it must be sealed to prevent It from becoming saturated. 4. Dense vegetative cover is to be established over the supply trench, return trench and drip tubing prior to the first exposure to freezing temperatures. If vegetation cannot be established, then trenches and tubing are to be covered with a thick layer (minimum 6") of mulch, straw/hay, etc. until such turf cover is established. Established vegetation height over the dispersal area should be a minimum 4'-6" throughout winter months. 5. Contractor shall insulate all "air release valves." Insulation to consist of blue board, bagged Styrofoam peanuts, or equivalent. If fiberglass insulation is used, it must be sealed to prevent it from becoming saturated release valves shall be placed below the ground surface Inside a valve box but at an elevation above the highest drip line in that particular zone. 6. All loops connecting drip runs shall be slightly elevated (minimum 1"- 2") so that they drain into the drip tubing after the pump shuts off. It Is the contractor's responsibility to ensure these loops stay elevated during and after the loops are backfilled. 7. All conduit entering into the control panel shall be sealed to prevent condensation inside the panel. GENERAL The contractor shall furnish and Install ( I ) MlcroFAST 0.5 treatment system as manufactured by Bio -Microbes, Inc. The treatment system shall be complete with all needed equipment as shown on the drawings and specified herein. The principal Items of equipment shall Include FA51-5y5tem Insert, Insert lid (or leg extensions If that option is chosen), blower assembly; blower controls and alarms. The MlcroFAST 0.5 unit shall be situated within a 450 gallon minimum compartment In a two compartment tank as shown on the plans, or In a 800 gallon one- compartment necompartment tank. Tanks) must conform to local, state, and all other applicable codes. The contractor shall provide coordination between the FAST system and tank supplier with regard to fabrication of the tank, Installation of the PA5T unit and delivery to the fob site. 2. OPERATING CONDITIONS The MlcroFAST 0.5 treatment system shall be capable of treating the wastewater produced by typical family activltles (b;ath, laundry, kitchen, etc.) ranging from ( I ) one to (8) eight persons and not to exceed 500 U5 Gallons per day (1893 LPD). 3. MEDIA The FAST media shall be manufactured of rigid PVC, polyethylene or polypropylene and It shall be supported by the polyethylene Insert. The media shall be fixed In position and contain no moving or wearing parts and shall not corrode. The media shall be deslgned and installed to ensure that sloughed solids Immediately descend through the: media to the bottom of the septic tank. 4. BLOWER', The MlcroF,A5T 0.5 unit shall come equipped with a regenerative type blower capable of delivering 1 1-25 CFM. The blower assembly shall Include an Inlet filter with metal filter element. BLOWER HOUSING SHALL BE INSULATED WITH SOUND DEADING MATERIAL. 5. REMOTE: MOUNTED BLOWER The blower may be mounted remote with no more than 100 ft (30.5 M) of piping and no more than four elbows, from the MlcroFAST unit on a contractor supplied concrete base. The blower mint not set In standing water and Its elevation must be higher than the normal flood level. A two-piece, rectangular housing shall be provided with tamper -proof screws. The dlscharge air line- from the blower to the MlcroFAST shall be provided and Installed by the 7. ALARMS The alarm system shall consist of a visual and audlble- alarm to Indicate loss of power to the blower andlor high water level. A manual silence switch is Included. 8. INSTALLATION AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS All work must be done In accordance with local codes and regulations. Installation of the MlcroFAST 0.5 shall be done In accordance with the written instructions provided by the manufacturer. No more than four foot of fill may be placed over the FAST 0 lid. Operation manuals shall be furnished which will Include a description of Installation, operation, and system maintenance procedures. There shall be a separate manual for the Installer, service provider, and owner, tailored to each. Si. WARRANTY The manufacturer of the MlcroFAST 0.5 treatment system shall warrant for three years from the date of shipment or two years form the date of start-up, whichever occurs first, that the equipment they provide will be free from defects In material and workmanship. In the event a mechanical component falls to perform as specified or Is proven defective In service during the warranty period, the manufacturer shall repair or replace such defective parts. (Cost of labor on repair/replacement is not covered under this warranty.) The replacement or repair of those Items normally consumed In service such as air filter, etc., shall be considered as part of routine maintenance and upkeep. It is not intended that the manufacturer assume responsibility for contingent Ilabliltles or consecluentlal damages of any nature resulting from defects in design, material or workmanship, or delays in delivery, replacement, or otherwise. 10. FLOW AND DOSING Wastewater treatment systems work best when influent flow Is delivered as conslstently as possible. FAST systems have been successfully designed, tested and certified receiving gravlty. demand -based Influent flow. However when Influent flow Is controlled (either by pump or other means) to the FAST system to help with highly variable flow conditions, then multiple feeding events should be used to help assure even flow, optimum performance, and reliability. 10.
