Mr. Bruce Murphy ' Yarmouth Health Department ' 1146 Route 28 South Yannouth,MA 02664 , Dear Mr. Murphy: The Board of Directors of the Blue Rock Heights Association would like to know why our indoor pool, which is for the use of paid up members and their invited guests only, comes under the same guidelines as a motel in the Town of Yarmouth. i Our pool is only open for three two hour sessions daily and there is always an attendant on duty within a ; few feet of the pool and within reach of a telephone. Any person under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Your guidelines require us to have people on duty who are certified in CPR, first aid, and water ; safety. Our problem with that is the expense. Our association cannot afford to pay to certify enough guards and the people who volunteer their time to open the pool and stay there for two hours do not feel ; they should be burdened with the expense of taking those courses. The Town of Yarmouth beaches are only covered with life guards for certain hours during the da.y. The ; rest of the time people swim at their own risk. We would not allow that in our association. There has ' always been, and will always be,a responsible adult to open and close the pool and to spend the opened hours sitting there. Is there always an attendant at a motel pool, a private residence pool, or a Town of Yarmouth beach when there is someone swimming? Our pool is inside a locked building, as opposed to pools in motels or even in private residence's back yards. Our pool is only open to paid up members. We check the water regularly and we always welcome an inspection by the town. Our problem is the requirement of the three certifications for our attendants. We respectfully request an exemption to your requirements of having certified people on duty during the open hours at our pool. Sincerely, ; Lawrence R.
