G. Where water service pipes cross septic system pipe both
pipes shall be placed such than no joint occurs within ten
feet offhe crossino. Encase water pipe in 2" Sch40 PVC
for ten feet either side of the crossing. Fill space
between service pipe and encasement with mortar at both
ends of the PVC.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 INSPECTION
A. General:
1. Examine areas and conditions under which septic
system's materials and products are to be installed.
Note that the base of precast system components will be
located as much as five feet below hiah groundwater
level. Provide dewatering durino construction
sufficient to reduce groundwater to at least one foot
below the base of each component to allow excavation
and placement of foundation materials on undisturbed
soil. and proper compaction of backfill materials.
�. Do not proceed with Work until unsatisfactory
conditions have been corrected in a manner acceptable
to Engineer.
Mak, sufficient subsurface investigations to determine
the extent of existina septic system leaching area and
components. Obtain approval of the Yarmouth Board of
Health for disposal site and method of disposal for
exlstlno system Components.
3.02 INSTALLATION
A. Existi.nu Septic System: Preserve existing buildino sewers
whicn may be properly connected to new components. Pump
existing components dry and remove to the level of the
lowest invert in the structure or to such depth or extent
as required for placement of new construction. Fill
remainlna volume in precast structures with clean sand
sufficiently compacted to maintain the level of finish
orad-.
B. Septic System Pioina:
1. Make all PVC joints permanently gas and watertight
usino appropriate solvent -weld methods.
_. Make all Pipe connections at knockout locations
provided in Precast structures.
3. SUopprt Pipe at prover elevation and fill openino
aroupn D>_oe with mortar.
�. Flat- nioina on firm and undisturbed base of natural
soil or compacted fill and backfill with clean granular
soil properly compacted.
C. Septic Tank. Grease Traps. Pump Pits and Distribution Boxes:
1. Place on level base of 3/4" to 1-1/2" washed stone at
least one foot in depth.
2. Backfill with clean granular soil compacted to 90% of
maximum dry density as determined by ASTM D.699 or
AASHO D:T99.
3. Assemble tank components in accordance with
manufactures instructions to achieve guaranteed
watertight structures. Assemble tanks in dewatered
excavations, pump dry and demonstrate watertight
construction by absence of leakaoe through construction
ioints fora 72 hour Period after restoration of high
groundwater level.
4• Demo,strate equal distribution of fluids to laterals by
water tasting.
D. Leaching Fields:
1. Remove pavement, vegetation and debris from leaching
field area including proposed side slopes, and remove
from site.
2. Excavate and stockpile existing clean sand fill and
native soil which meets backfill specifications.
4. Excavate and remove from site all peat, debris, and
soils with excessive fines from beneath the leaching
field to the lateral limits indicated. Removal will
included all soils with an excess four percent passing
the number 200 sieve.
5. Backfill excavation with clean stockpiled sand and sand
borrow. Clean medium sand backfill (<0.2% passing #200
sieve) may be placed in groundwater. Allow sufficient
time to re-establish natural groundwater elevation
before constructing fields. Fill above the water table
shall be placed in lifts not to exceed one foot
compacted to eo% maximum dry density. Demonstrate
Percolation rate of in-place fill to be less than two
minutes Der inch.
6. Construct leaching fields on prepared level surface
in accordance with these drawinas. Support
distribution laterals to achieve uniform 0.005ft/ft
Pitch. Do not subject field to heavy vehicle loading
until one (1) foot of cover material is in place.
E. Temporary. Construction:
1. Provide. install and remove temporary shoring or bracing
as required to protect underground utilities.
fo,ndations or structures from damage during
construction.
2. Provide and install siltation barriers and/or other
measures as required to Prohibit transport of sediment
to drainage systems on or adjacent to the site or to
Parker's River.
F. Site Restoration
1. Provide fill materials. fill and orade construction
area to elevations shown on these plans.
2. Provide and install dense 6" oraded stone base on areas
de=_ionated for paving or vehicle use. Finish grade to
elevations required for subsequent surfacing.
