Hiring Procedures &Backgrounds checks:
All staff must complete an application for employment that includes 3 references.
Staff references are called and all applicants are interviewed for their position.
Staff are required to become registered with Boy Scouts of America. This membership
will include a national criminal background check and Massachusetts CORI� �o�i
Results from these investigation can result in the termination of offer of employment .

Procedures for reporting suspected child abuse or neglect:
Any staff inember suspecting that a child has been abused in any manner must
immediately make a report to their supervisor.
Frist Priority will be if the child needs immediate medical treatment, in which case
appropriate treatment will be sought.
Suspected abuse will be immediately reported to the proper authorities: child services
and/or local police.
The staff inember will not engage in"investigating"the abuse. That task is left to the
professionals. The staff's job is to recognize and report the suspected abuse while
keeping the safety of the camper as their primary concern.

STANDING ORDERS
• Asthma Child: Should have history, prescribed medical regime,etc. Prevention of attacks
through environment,control of stress,and avoiding overexertion. Administer medications as
ordered. Child may keep inhaler throughout the day,if used greater than BID and provided he
and counselor are given strict and thorough instruc#ions of its use and dangers. Severe Attack:
administer Adrenalin 0.3 cc SQ and bring to MD for evaluation.
• Athlete's Foot: Wash feet in soap and water,apply Athlete's foot spray(i.e. Dr Schol['s) BID.
Instruct to keep feet dry as possible. Use of sandals may be indicated.
• Bee Sting: Tweeze out stinger if possible. Apply paste of baking soda and water to area.
Apply cold.packs to reduce swelling. Benadryl 25-50 mg PO Q6hrs for itching and pain. Severe
Reaction: Adrenalin 0.3 cc SQ and call rescue.
• Blisters: Do not break skin. Cover with DSD. For large blisters cover with Bacitracin.
Assess frequently for infection. �
• Boils: Hot compresses TID until healed. When suppuration occurs, DSD TID. For more
than one boil notify MD. Teach method of avoiding contamination of self and others.
• Burns/Sunburns:Cold compresses immediately. First Aid spray for first degree burns. Burns of
greater degree to be evaluated by MD.
• Colds: Force ffuids. Tylenol and decongestant as needed. Sore throats:gargle with
warm water,use lozenges._Cough:Robitussin Q3-4 hrs per age as recommended.
• Constipation: Force fluids,fruit juice, bran products. Increase activity. Haley's MO, Dulcolax
PRN.
o Diarrhea, Nausea,Vomiting, Upset Stomach: Rest,forced clear liquids. BRAT diet. (f no
relief to be evaluated by MD.
• Earache: Insti112-3 ggts Auralgan, if no relief or pain reoccurs,call hospital ED.

• Eyes: Foreign body irrigated with water,if questionable,cafl hospital ED.
• Fever: Over 100.6 degrees,f�rce fluids, unbundle,Tylenol as per directions.
• Head Injuries: DO NOT MOVE!! Immediately check vital signs,check bleeding,
neurological signs,ievel.of consciousness. Cail Rescue. Monitor closely for 24 hours. For minor
injuries—ice,rest,Tyleno!as directed.
• Heat Exhaustion: Admit to Health Lodge, bed rest,TPR and forced fluids until signs and
symptoms resolve.
• Insect Bites: Alcohol wash. Ice for swelling. Caladryf for itching. Severe Reaction: Benadryl
25-50 mg ROQ6 hrs as needed
• Lacerations: Assess depth and length of wound for treatmen#plan. If deep and.dirty:apply
pressure,wash with soap and water,apply Bacitracin,bandage, have follow-up with MD or
haspital ED. Check daily for signs of infection and reapply clean bandages.
� Overdose: CALL POISON CONi'ROL!! Call hospital ED and transport as needed.
� Poison ivy: wash skin well with soap and water. Apply Caladryl lotion. If no relief,give
Benadryl 25-50 mg PO. If extensive area(especially around eyes)call hospital.
If parents cannot remove an ill child from camp,proceed to walk in clinic or hospitat ED.

� All leaders and campers are briefed on emergency procedures shortly after arrival at
! camp.
The camp emergency signal is a siren which,will signal for all camp participants and
visitors to assembly on the parade field for roll call.
1 Lightning/Severe Storm
a) At the first sign of lightening all waterfront activities stop. All swimmers out of
the water, all boats beached. Boaters walk back to waterfront.
b) Everyone in caxnp seeks shelter in a building or vehicle until the storm subsides.
i) Program activities will be moved to the dining hall and/or pavilion as
appropriate.
ii) Secure camp for high winds and rain
(1) Drop and secure all temporary structures as appropriate
(2) Secure non-essential electrical equipment
2 Missing Camper/Lost Bather
a) Missing Camper
i) Report missing camper to Camp Director
ii) Sound emergency siren
iii) Assemble all campers,visitors and staff on parade field for roll ca11.
iv) Commence search as necessary and appropriate.
v) Notify Scout executive if lost camper is not located within fifteen minutes.
b) Lost Bather
i) Report lost bather to Caxnp Director
ii) Sound emergency siren and announce for lost bather divers to report to the
waterfront.
iii) Assemble a11 campers,visitors and staff(excluding divers) on paxade field for
roll call.
iv) Aqua.tics staff conduct lost bather search.
v) Notify Scout executive if lost camper is not located within fifteen minutes
3 Major Accident
a) Report all accidents to the Camp Director
b) Camp Director reports to the Scout executive any accident involving
i) Loss of consciousness
ii) Hospital admission
iii) Fatality
c) Execute emergency plan as appropriate

Procedure for Release of or Absentee Camper
1. No camper will be released to person(s)without the appropriate release form.
2. In the event any person(s)attempt to remove a camper without authorization:
a. Escort the person(s)off camp property
b. Notify local police as needed
c. Inform.camper parent/guardian
d. Inform Scout's unit leader
e. Inform the Scout Executive
3. In the event an unauthorized person(s)removes a caxnper from camp property,the Camp Director
will

Absentee Camper
In the event a camper is absent from tra,nsportation to or from camp,the Camp Director or Program
Director will
1. Call the parent/guardian

Unregistered Campers:
Although most campers register in advance, walk ins are allowed
Walk in registrations are required to complete a registration form and medical
information. This will include emergency contacts and names of those the child can be
released to.
A certificate of immunizations must be included with their registration for the child to
remain at camp.

� a) Weather service reports will be monitored throughout the camping season.

5 Fire
a) All campfires are contained in fire rings and attended per BSA fire guard
procedures.
b) Wild fires and buildang fires are not fought by campers or leaders.
c) All uncontrolled fires are reported to the camp director
d) All campers and staff report to the parade field for roll call.
6 Earthquake
a) At the first sign of ground tremor
i) exit any building
ii) stay clear of
(1) overhead wires and electrical equipment
(2) buildings,vehicles and tall trees
(3) Propane tanks and flanunable liquids.
b) After tremors stop
i) assemble on parade field for roll call
ii) Sta.ying away from buildings,ta11 trees and downed wires.
iii) Camp director will ensure main power breakers ore off and check telephone
service.
7 Train Derailment
a) Report derailment to Camp Director
i) Assemble campers for roll ca11
ii) Ca11911 providing as much location information as possible
b) Provide assistance as requested by emergency services.
c) Be prepared to evacua.te camp
8 Plane Crash
a) Report crash to Camp Director '
i) Assemble campers for roll ca11
ii) Ca11911 providing as much location information as possible

Camp Parking lot is labeled with a one way traffic pattern.
Parents must enter the parking lot,park their car,and walk their child to the check in
table.
At dismissal,parents/guardians must park their car and walk to check out table at which
time the camper will be brought forward to meet their parent and leave with them.
NO camper is allowed beyond the check in/out tables without being in the care of an
adult
