Dear Yazmouth Merchant:
The Yarmouth Avlice Department, in collaboration with the Yarmouth Health Department, has
recently completed a compliance check to determine if minors (anyone under the a.�e of 18) could�
purchase tobacco products frvm your establishment.
A minor was uaable to pu�rch�se tobacco in your store during the August 5, 1999 compliance
check.
Mrr�ors were sent inta nineteen (19) out of forty-nine(49)Yarmouth establishments licensed to sell
cigarettes, to attempt purchases_ If the clerk asked the m�inors their age or if the tobacco was for
them,the minors told the truth. It is against Massachusetts law and the Yarmouth Board ofHealth
regulation for anyor�e to sell tobacco products to people under the age of eighteen_
We are happy to infarm you that your i�usiness did not sell tobacco products to a minor during t,his
compliance check. We congratulate you amd your employe�s for�amplyi►�g w►ith the to6acco law
and promoting good health among Yarmouth's y�uth. Other compliance checks will be
conducted in the future, and we hope that your business continues to comply with the tobacco law
by refusing to sell tobacco products to minors_
