RE: Board of Health Meeting
May 4, 2009
Dear Mr. Mitrokostas:
This letter is to reconfirm my discussion with you regarding your property on April 30, 2009. We
discussed the Police Department and town departments response on Thursday, April 23, 2009 regarding
the 3 year old boy found wandering on your property. The mother of the child stated that she had been
staying at the property for the past four months. We also discussed the Building Department's notice of
violation letter of February 23, 2009 in which you were ordered to "cease and desist allowing long term
guest stays, immediately". We inspected several of the motel rooms and noted rooms 1 and 2 are used
by you and observed rooms 3, 4 and 5 were vacated. Two of these rooms were occupied during the
town response of April 23. We then viewed the office records of guests. I noted that some guest
registrations did not have the check in date completed. You informed me that you were aware that you
could not have guests longer than 30 days.
I also informed you that before you filled the swimming pool, you must install a bottom drain cover to
be in compliance with the new federal Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act. A vacuum
safety release will also need to be installed. You had previously received a letter from this department
outlining these requirements. Your pool company must submit a letter stating your compliance prior to
requesting an opening inspection of the pool. The bottom of the pool fence must be fastened securely
into the ground.
A Board of Health meeting has been scheduled for Monday, May 4, 2009 at 4:15 PM in the downstairs
hearing room at town hall. At that time, you will need to inform the Board that you are operating the
motel for transient motorists and not operating with long term rentals. Failure to operate the motel in
compliance with town and state regulations will result in the Board of Health holding a meeting in the
future for possible revocation of your motel license.
