Please note: The Board of Building Regulations and Standards has called to the attention of all Building Officials the following provision of the Massachusetts State Building Code: 780 CAM Section 1028.3 Testing and Certification: All exterior bridges, steel or wooden stairways, fire escapes and egress balconies shall be examined and/or tested and certified for structural adequacy and safety evely rye years, by a Massachusetts registered professional engineer. or others qualifled and acceptable to the building official. said engineer or others shall then submit an afidavit to the building oflcial. The Yarmouth Building Department will therefore require the owners of all commercial properties which contain these structures, provide an original, stamped affidavit signed by a structural engineer, attesting that he or she has inspected and certified said structures as safe for public use. This provision must be complied with within three months from the expiration date listed on your current certificate. Inspection of other applicable life safety items will be conducted as in previous years. The issuance of a new certificate, however, will be subject to the receipt of the engineer's report. Finally, applications and fees must be received within ten (10) days of receipt of this letter.
