Tenant
Inspection was arranged to examine an existing basement apartment. The
apartment was created within the last 2 years without benefit of building, �
electric, or plumbing permits. ;

Coastal Engineering had applied for, and was granted, permission to design �
a sewage ejection pump installation so that a basement level bathroom �
could be created. DEQE approval was given August 12, 1986. Notification �
submitted to Health Office is a letter of September 1, 1986 (rec'd 9/17/86). �
It was determined at the time of inspection that this unit is unacceptable ',
due to the following points. ,
a) Unacceptable window dimensions for emergency egress-living room.
b) Six foot seven inch ceiling height in kitchen.
c) Lack of windows in bedroom.
d) Single egress - second means of egress is through furnace area/work
• room.
e) Initial violation of applicable codes by construction without permits.
The tenant was informed verbally that he should vacate immediately due
to potential life threatening hazard. The apartment was not, is not,
and can not be registered as a legal rental unit under Town of Yarmouth
By-Law Chapter 108 or Chapter II - State Sanitary Code.
