Sport plays an important part ia the lives of yaung people.Challenger believes that all young
peopte shoutd have the apportunity to participate in sport�n a safe environment.Safe practice
needs to be an integral feature of Challenger programs and provision..Risk is a feature of
everyday life,however we must endeavor to bath xecoguize whete risk lies and also minimize its
occutrence.It is imperative that aU Challenger employees aze able io provide safe learning
oppottunities and be able to managa rlsk to ensure everyone's safety.
In order to fulfill these responsibilitxes,these guidelinas provtda a practical framework for
practica.It should be noted however that safe practice is dynamic and ever chang�ng.Changes in
law,expectations and sooial clirnate require all employees to keep up to date with safety issucs.
Dealin�w�th host venues
Establishing sound worlcing relatianships wlth the host organization is an unportant aspect of our
work.Tha following points shoutd ensure a clear working relations}�p.
•Foll�wing initiat discussions,a contxact should be drawn up,which is agreed and signed by
both parties.All details relevant to the provision,including administration,detivecy,wsts,
should be included.
•A clear statement of wha is providing what needs to be agreed in advance.
•Responsib�lities for all aspects of the pxovision need to be established including:
'i� . o Who provides and disseminates information/flyecs regarding the pragram?
o Who collects application forms?
o Who provides first aid?
� o Who provides access to a telephone?
o Who is the contact person?
o Who deal with an accidant and how is it reportad?
In generat,most of tha responsibility for these aspects is the responsibility of the regional .
representative%;aach:For example,we have a clear procedure for reporting accidents.Merely
ensure all responsibilities are clear and tcnown to all parties.
• Flyers will cover all details of the provision includiag:location,cost,start and end times,
eqaipment requirements(including lunch and clothing),and written disclaimers.All
participants'parents/guardians must complete the correct application form and disclaimer
prior to any partictpation.
• All host venues should be provided a capy of the Challenger insurance.
! Wrltten confirmation should be given to the host organizatian confirming that alt
Challenger coaches are police checked.
•The host organization should be infarmed of any incident as soon as possible.This should
be given both verbally and in wrlting from either a regional representative or VP of
Personnel depending on the nature of the incident.

Parents should feel confident at all times that their child/children are safe and are receiving
quality coaching.-Flyers will inform paremts of all aspects af the o�urse and allow parents to
inform coaches of any medical conditions which affects their child/children.
All Chatlenger representatives should encourage parents ta take an interest in any Challenger
program/cowrses and an open door policy will be adopted at all times.Coaches should take ttme
to answer any questions parents may have before,during or after any prograrn.
Parents must be iofo;med of any incident wluch involves their child/children.
Dealin�with„�hildre�
Challengex's philosophy of working with children is extremely clear.The ehild Is We most
important aspect of all of our work.Specific information regarding the care of children is
contained in the Challenger Sports Policy Document which all employees must be familiar with. ,
Additionally,the fotlowing guidelines hfglilight v�►at children can expect from all Chaltenger
employees. .
Children can expect,
•To participate in safe,fun,exciting leaming environments.
�To be actively encouraged to take responsibility for their learning.
• Constant encouragement to perform ones best.
� � • To receive pflsitive constructive feedback from coaches. �
• Never ta be punished for making mistakes(including physical or emotional punishment
e.g.running laps,embarrassment)
•To be en�couraged to play faialy and accept winn�ng and losing in a sgorting mann�r. - - -
•To learn to respect everyone involved in sport.
••To see their leaming in a wid$r senss,inaluding social,moral,and psychological
development.
