This beam will clear span the dining area and a portion of the great room. The W10x26 steel beam will carry the imposed loads and meet deflection re- quirements. This beam plus the following construction requirements are summarized for you and the contractor: • Beam - W10x26 ASTM Grade 36. Flush frame the 2"x 10" floor joists onto the bottom flange. Provide a bottom flange sleeper shim. Across the top of the beam glue/nail the plywood on- to the joists in order to provide a diaphragm tie. • Columns - 4"x 6" #2 or BTR D-Fir. Install solid blocking to the main girt or house sill as required. At the top ends drill and lag the bottom flange onto the top of the 4"x 6" through a matching 1/2" bearing plate w/ 3/8"x 4-1/2" lag bolts. • Connections - Under the 3/2"x 12" girt install a 1/2"x 4-1/2"x 8" spreader plate for the 3-1/2" concrete lally column top plate. Install a 1/2"x 4-1/2" square base plate on the footer pad. Weld all plates to the columns. • Column Pad - 12"x 3 '0" square, unreinforced concrete footer pad set on undistrubed in-situ soils.
