Converted one-car garage to habitable space without
building permit as requirAt by Mass. Building Code
Section 113. 1 and Yarmouth Zoning By-law Section 103 .1. 1.
If at the expiration of time allowed these conditions have
not been remedied and no cause aforesaid be shown, such

Dear Mr. Rhynd:
I am in receipt of your letter of May 14,.1990 and wish to remedy any violation
concerning the above-referenced property.
I do,however,want to point out it was my understanding that a building permit was
not required if work was less than $2,000.
By way of background,the garage was finished with pine boards when the house was
built. The only improvement since then was removing the garage door and replacing
it with the 9" glass door. It cost $600 and was installed by me and a neighbor. The
room has no central heat or air-conditioning. It has a small electric heater, again,
installed when the house was built because I used to work on my boat in the garage.
The room is furnished but the concrete garage floor remains, although covered with
an old carpet.
We have retained the garage door because my father-in-law would want to replace it,
if he decides to retire on cape(he is also an owner of the property). We presently use
the home only in the summer.
I shall telephone you next Monday to seek your guidance on what measures I need to
take to rectify the matter.
