Dear Mr. Stone:
I hereby certify that the steel beam carrying 2x6 at 16" o.c.
roof joists shall be located midway between the 24'-0"
Garage width, spanning 23'-32" in length, and be of minimum
size W14x22. This beam shall be connected as shown on the
attached Detail sheet.
The beam, having been designed for 10 psf Dead Load plus
20 psf Live Load, for a maximum midspan deflection of
approximately 1/2", complies with the Massachusetts State
Building Code, 4th Edition requirements , and the American
Institute of Steel Construction, "Manual of Steel Construction",
9th Edition requirements for ASTM A36 steel.
