Lawson, Jr., Hazardous Waste Inspector SUBJECT: Kaleidoscope Imprints 103C Mid Tech Drive DATE: August 29, 2011 On August 23, 2011 I attended a meeting at Kaleidoscope Imprints at the request of business owner Steve Karras. Meeting Attendees: Sue Tobelman Kaleidoscope Steve Karras Kaleidoscope Nick Kaleidoscope Carl Lawson Yarmouth Health Phil Ventriglia Chemical Consultants, Inc. (manufacturer of water recycling system) Paul Chemical Supplier Kaleidoscope seeks to upgrade their water filtration system as the present system is prone to clogging, requiring an inordinate amount of time to maintain. Several systems are under consideration by Kaleidoscope. The system discussed at the above meeting will better clean the recycled water by first (1) using a clay-based additive that helps the emulsion better bind together so that it can be more effectively filtered from the water and (2) using a filtering system that filters smaller particles than the present system. The model considered is the CCI-150FS. The machine capacity is 150 gallons of water treated per batch. Therefore, there are three benefits of the new system: (1) better contaminant separation (due to the clay-based additive that binds the emulsion together); (2) better water filtration (due to smaller micron filters); and (3) greater water capacity (due to the capacity of the filtration machine. The material captured by the bag filters is a mixture of emulsion and clay additive. After removal from the filter bags the material would be dried outside until solidified and then is approved by the EPA for disposal as general trash. Mr. Phil Ventriglia agreed to provide the Health Office with documentation on this item. Another system would use an evaporator to evaporate the waste water, but this was not investigated at this meeting. 2 All systems would require secondary containment per Yarmouth regulation. Per Bruce Murphy Health Director the lines connecting the different components of the system may not need secondary containment depending on the configuration of the system. The Health Office will review plans / diagrams from Kaleidoscope to determine the containment requirements. Kaleidoscope will update the Health Office as their decisions progress.
