The proposed stairs cover approximately 157 square feet of the bank. • Previously, a set of bluestone paver steps, shown on the plan in blue, provided access to the pond. The stairs have been removed and the slope stabilized and vegetated per previously approved plans (area shaded in green indicates the extent of the previous planting by BlueFlax Design LLC - started in 2018). The area has not be accessible to the residents since this time. • During construction, any vegetation in the path of the steps would be transplanted to a new location within the 50-foot buffer. • Timber stairs with wooden railing will be mainly constructed off site and delivered in kit form. Stair components will be delivered and installed as needed with little or no storage on site. Posts will be 4”x4” and hand dug to 3’ deep. All excess soil will be removed. • One landing (approximately 40 square feet) will be constructed for safety and to prevent any need for regrading of the existing slope. • A 3-foot limit of work is designated on either side of the proposed steps, though little disturbance of the area is anticipated. • Construction will take approximately 1-2 weeks. • Any areas left bare after the stair installation would be blanketed with 100-percent biodegradable erosion control blanket and seeded with a native grass and wildflower mix to prevent erosion. This is consistent with the seed mix used in the 2018 BlueFlax Design LLC restoration project (“Restoration Planting Plan” dated July 3, 2018, RVSD August 27, 2018).
