Upon arrival, Found homeowners who state they have water in the basement. House had a heavy smell of home heating oil. Mold noted on numerous surfaces. Significant damage noted in the basement, with floors having buckled on the First Floor and ceiling in the master bedroom having Fallen. Prior to arrival of YFD, homeowner managed to secure water in basement. Basement is a walk -out type and water was released into the back yard. Water estimated to have reached 16-18" in the basement. Home is heated with oil heat and is a seasonal property, with no one having visited in a few months. Basement water was gray in color, potentially being contaminated with oil. Door of the walk -out was opened by homeowner prior to arrival of YFD, with water draining into the back yard. Several inches of water noted in areas of the backyard. Back yard smelled strongly of oil. Exact amount of oil leakage unknown at this time. Yarmouth water requested to secure water. Building inspector (Brad Inkley) notified and responded. YFD dispatch asked to notifications For 10+ gallons. Lt. Starr spoke with the Deputy on the phone and YFD Fire prevention to Follow up tomorrow. There is 2 to 3 feet of water in the basement. This is a vacation home last visited in February. For tonight the water and power will be secured.
