Bruce Original Message From: Sally Evans [mailto:kissmette@comcast.net] Sent: Monday,July 22, 2019 10:14 AM To: Murphy, Bruce<BMurphy@yarmouth.ma.us> Subject: Re: Goats Good morning Bruce, Yes,there is less crying. Even our friends and family have noticed a big difference. The first week I didn't see them at all.The second week was every other day. If they cry/talk it's because they see people and they stop within 10/15 minutes and then are completely quiet. They are learning that they can't get their way by crying. I let them out of their barn today at 8:00 a.m. because it's so hot and they have been completely quiet for over 2 hours. I also have been taking videos during the day showing how peaceful and quiet they are! I'm grateful my time away has helped and I'm proud of my girls! The last thing we wanted was to disturb our quiet neighborhood. We are aware that their vocal behavior is more than the average goats and we are working hard to break them of this behavior. As it turns out our first attempts to rectify the situation has done the opposite. We took extra care to console them when they would become talkative. This was the wrong approach. We recently took the time to speak with the farm where we got the goats. It seems that they have replaced their mom with Sally. The Plan now is to Minimize contact with them to wean them. Unfortunately, this can take a week or two. We are told that this will most likely fix the situation. If for some reason this does not control their talkativeness,we will bring them back to the farm for a few weeks and then try again. Your co operation and understanding is greatly appreciated. Good luck Thank you Ron.I will try that starting tomorrow.I will also let Bruce know in the health department what I'm going to do so he can let the complaining neighbors know to give me that time to try to fix the crying. reo_, Also, you could bring them back here.We would keep separated from their mother and let them get used to no you.Once crying stops which it will then you can come pick up and try again. You could come visit which may help in that they see you then you go. Probably cry again but in due course this would stop and they would be used to seeing you and then not 9Rtl. That definitely something that we will consider if the no interaction works. Dan said he will take care of them for a week instead of me. Do you think that's better than me doing any chores and having them see me? Ao+) Yes Dan doing is much better but again no interaction, just feed, water and tuck in. No hugs and kisses. Called "tough love" i Assuming that works which I suspect it will, week 2 I would alternate days between you and Dan. Hugs t and kisses by you but none from Dan.If they start crying stop your seeing. Then restart. They never got used to no mother as you simply replaced Callie. ,_wily Ok! We will do all of the above! It's going to be hard for me and the girls but I will do whatever it takes to keep my girls! Thank you Ron! I will keep you updated! Dan put them to bed Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. and yesterday morning opened up the barn and fed them at 10:00 a.m. Ivy and Clover are completely quite during those hours. Not one sound. Dan worked at the farm yesterday and kept me updated on their behavior. He said yesterday was a good/better day. They did cry on a few occasions but he ignored their behavior and they settled down.
