HI Joan
We have similar issues on Seagull Beach where people continue to bring dogs regardless of the regulations and signage.
The bird monitors required under the permit are able to educate dog owners where they can, and they have our Division
of Natural Resources as an enforcement authority where needed. I understand that the association cannot control all
activity on the beach in this regard and that natural predators will continue to be a threat. The presence of the bird
monitors is a vital part of a successful breeding season.
Thanks

Hi Kelly
Thank you.
I would like to talk to you about the dog issue. We do not allow dogs for our homeowners who are part or our
Association. There are nine homes in which dogs are permitted. They were grandfathered in when the place was
subdivided and were owned by members of the Powers family. We post No Dogs Allowed on Beach signs at every
entrance to our beach - four of them. And, we have two No Dogs Allowed signs as you enter our complex. We will let
the owners of the homes not in the Association know that they can’t have dogs on the beach during bird season - April
through mid-August. As far as monitoring dogs, we had chicks born this year on our beach, so I think there have not
been any problems. But, as far as monitors go, we can’t control dog owners who walk in from Sea Gull beach or Great
Island. We have tried in the past but those folks just ignore us. I will say, however, that their dogs generally stay right
with them along the shore and don’t go into the dunes. Our board is mostly composed of older folks with a host of
ailments who can’t be expected to take on trespassers in any physical way. Also, we can’t control coyotes or fox at night.
I hope you don’t mind if I give you a call on Monday.
You enjoy the weekend as well.
Best,
Joan
