Hi Guys,
Please find attached the DR Application for the DRC meeting on October 15th at 4PM in Room B. The application is
from Whitten Landscaping for 20 Commercial Street to construct a maintenance building for his vehicles. You may
recall that Craig Whitten came before the DRC in 2013 with a ROAD project for this site (first floor storage and two
dwelling units on 2nd floor). However, it appears that it was too costly to construct and Craig has come back with
this new proposal for his vacant lot.
I have reviewed the application and requested additional information on the proposed stone veneer, building
mounted lighting and any signage proposed. I would offer the following comments for consideration by the DRC:
1. Architecture: Overall the building looks good for a vehicle maintenance building. They are using shingles,
stone veneer, and garage doors with windows. The building is a 62’x40’ rectangle with no modulations. It
would have been nice to see a small gable end projection in the office area on the Front Elevation to give
some modulation, but at a minimum, some type of portico or roof over the entrance doors along the Front
and Left Side Elevations should be provided.
2. Site: The only comment I have is that there should be a 10’ buffer for the trees along the northern property
line. It looks like stone parking area extends into the tree buffer.
I will forward any additional information if I receive it ahead of the meeting, and will bring hard copies to the
meeting. Copies of the packets are available in the box outside my office. Dick, Jack and Charlie have confirmed
attendance.
