'Captain Harvey'
RE: Requested lmage... 370 Weir Rd.
Certificate of Approp 2019b.pdf
Hello Harvey-
Unfortunately, your application for a Certificate of Exemption to paint the front clapboards and remove the shutters on your
house located at 370 Weir Rd., has been denied. The Committee understands your attempt to transform this Cape Ranch to
reflect more of a farmhouse look. To that end, they do not have issue with your color choice. Their main concern with this
application is the removal of the shutters. They feel that the removal of the shutters would certainly change the look of the
house, but not enough to meet the criteria of a farmhouse look, especially since there are other characteristics the house has
that are not in keeping with the architecture of a farmhouse such as the prominent bay window.
My suggestions for you
lf at this time you are willing to keep the shutters, I suggest that you submit another application for a Certificate of Exemption
that includes:
o Current color photos of the front of the house (accurately reflecting roof color)
o Paint chip sample for the front clapboards (l can provide the sample that was submitted with your original
application if you want)
o Paint chip sample for the shutters (not needed for white or black)
lf you are adamant about removing the shutters, you will need to submit an application for a Certificate of Appropriateness
(attached) which would require you to present your application at an Old King's Highway Committee meeting. This option
would give you the opportunity to plead your case and answer any questions that the Committee may have about your
proposed changes. Should you choose this option, you will need to submit a complete application for placement on an
upcoming OKH meeting agenda. The OKH Committee hearings take place at 7:15pm in the Hearing Room downstairs at the
Yarmouth Town Hall. Please note the following filing deadlines for the next two meetings:
Meeting Date
Mon, Ap r 29,2019
Mon, May 13,2019
I will be more than happy to assist you through whichever process you choose

Thanks for the update, Beth
Yes, we are blessed to live on this slice of Old Cape Cod.
Hopefully the commission will recognize our attempts to make the house look more like a Homestead and less like a
1984 Ranch O
Thanks again for your help and guidance in this matter.

Hello Harvey-

Now onto the business at hand
The Old King,s Highway Committee Chairman reviewed your application to paint the front clapboards and remove the shutters
on your house located at377Weir Rd. While he does not have issue with the proposed color, his initial observation is that the
windows are narrow and without shutters he feels that the white trimmed windows against the red would emphasize the
narrowness of the windows and change the look of the house. The Chairman would prefer that you keep the shutters,
however, before making that decision he would like for other Committee members to take a look at this and offer their
thoughts.
I will be in touch once he has reached his decision which I expect will be no later than Tuesday Mar 26th

Good Morning Beth,
Frosty morning here on Weir. For the past 14 years we have worked to transfofin our 1984 "Cape Ranch" into a
property that reflects the historic nature of Weir Village, the first settlement of Yarmouth . We are proud to have
recently been designated as Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.
Thank you for your guidance in making this application.
Blessings,
Harvey &, Doreen Wright
