Subject:Re: Gioc machine raking
Thanks Kelly.
I will be on Cape early next week. Since the CT “sandman” is too far to bring his equipment just for our main cleanup, (he
rakes the Cape June-aug) I suspect we will just have a couple of residents walk the beach & hand pick up any debris or
wood that is on the beach. (The Cape Cod “sandman” is no longer in business). I will send him the OofC & let him know
you, I & he need to meet before scheduling any raking.
If we need a lite raking (as a result of new snails) prior to memorial day(per the OofC), I will call u in advance so we can
arrange a meeting with you & the CT “sandman” to insure you ok the areas to be raked(I spoke with Audubon & filled
them in on our current plans & will call them to arrange a shore monitor(s) to be present during any raking).
Thanks for the SeaGull info.
George

However, your permit requires the main cleanup be done by April 1st.

not currently have an Order for beach raking. They work closely with Mass Audubon to manage raking activity.

raking areas, have you approve these areas, then have you present during the raking.

>> After our conversation , I am still so confused, that I am listing some items for clarification to make sure we are
following the raking rules per our permit/OofC.
>> 1. I must have missed the three “allowed marked raking areas”, during the meeting. I reviewed the OofC after receipt,
thought I understood the rules. I reviewed the OofC again and did not see the site map or marked areas referenced in
the original or recently amended OofC-thus my confusion.
>> 2. We had lined up “the sandman”, lives near Waterbury, CT, uses college kids to rake the beach & I was operating
under the assumption that per the meeting, all that was required was us to mark off the to be raked areas(again, my
assumption 10’ south of the dunes & not further than the high water mark), and after we marked off this area, we
would call you & you would ok & then it would be machine raked under your supervision, all prior to 4/1 to clean up
years of “stuff” on the beach, including buried fish hooks, etc.
>> 3. Any further/necessary raking (such as a Hugh snail wash up) after 4/1 would be on an exception basis steering clear
of roped off plover nesting areas., after approval by ConCom. But with the raking distance restrictions from roped off
plover areas, the available areas to be raked looks like minimal at best in the event of a smelly snail issue(which happens
once every summer).
>>
>> 4. I saw that the Town beach also had beach raking on the ConComm agenda & was curious Was wondering how if
their OofC is available to us.
>>

>>
>> Now with the available raking area @ approx 50%, and the uncertainty of being able to coordinate all of this for a
raking prior to 4/1, I put the sandman on hold until I was clear what we can & can not do.
>>

you if necessary as I live outside of Boston), so I am clear & then suggest to our association a course of action that makes
sense.
