Hi Kelly:
I have consulted with the Clarks and they want to use Sweet Fern, Bearberry, and Creeping Juniper for the buffer.
Our understanding is that we will put these landward of the cobblestones (after they are removed) for a width of 4 feet.
They should just come over to the steps that go to the dock, and I'm not sure if they are needed on the other side; over
there (the north side of the dock) the vegetation is thicker to begin with; your call.
The buffer will go along the shorefront to the southern edge, leaving a 4-foot wide path from the lawn to the beach.
The sand will get removed down to the natural soil; if that's a lot, then they will have to add compatible soil for the
marsh to grow in.
My understanding is that at this time we won't be doing any marsh planting. The 4' wide path will be marked, and the
area on both sides allowed to let the marsh grow in.
If it doesn't, then we'd revisit it to perhaps add some marsh plantings (just the plants, not a full blown restoration, like
Ed said) to help it along.
All this can be in the order if I have it right.
Let me know.
Thanks for all your help.
