PLANTING EXECUTION:
1.ALL PLANT MATERIAL SHALL CONFORM TO THE MINIMUM GUIDELINES ESTABLISHED BY THE AMERICAN STANDARD FOR
NURSERY STOCK PUBLISHED BY THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF NURSERYMEN, INC.
2.ANY PROPOSED SUBSTITUTIONS OF PLANT MATERIAL SHALL BE MADE WITH MATERIAL EQUIVALENT TO THE DESIRED
MATERIAL IN OVERALL EFFECT & MEETING PERMIT REQUIREMENTS.
3.VERIFY ALL EXISTING UTILITY LINES PRIOR TO PLANTING AND REPORT ANY CONFLICTS TO THE OWNER OR OWNER'S
REPRESENTATIVE.
4.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE SOIL TEST REPORT FOR BOTH ON SITE SOIL REHANDLED AND FOR IMPORTED LOAM.
5.NO FERTILIZER SHALL BE APPLIED EXCEPT AS SPECIFIED BY THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT BASED UPON THE FINDINGS OF
NUTRIENT DEFICIENCIES INDICATED IN THE SOIL TEST REPORT PER 330 CMR 31.00.
6.FERTILIZER SHALL ONLY BE APPLIED BY A CAPE COD COMMISSION CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL FERTILIZER APPLICATOR.
7.ANY FERTILIZER SPILLED OR DEPOSITED ON IMPERVIOUS SURFACES SHALL BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY. FERTILIZER SHALL
NOT BE APPLIED IN A MANNER THAT WOULD ALLOW IT TO FLOW INTO ADJACENT STORM DRAINS. FERTILIZER SHALL NOT BE
APPLIED TO SOILS THAT ARE SATURATED OR FROZEN. FERTILIZER SHALL NOT BE APPLIED IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO FORECAST
HEAVY PRECIPITATION.
8.PLANTING AMENDMENTS SHALL INCLUDE MYCORHIZAE INOCULATION.
9.PREPARE SUBGRADE WITH 2 LB./1000 S.F. SATURATED SOIL CONDITIONER POLYACRYLAMIDE
10.REMOVE ALL WRAPPINGS SO THAT THE PLANT CANOPY AND STEMS AND TRUNKS MAY BE REVIEWED FOR DAMAGE OR
DISEASE.
11.PLACE TREES IN THE CENTER OF THE HOLES. SET THE TRUNK FLARE OF THE PLANT 2” ABOVE FINISH GRADE. TREES SHALL BE
STAKED AS DIRECTED BY OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE.
12.CUT AND REMOVE ALL ROPES OR SYNTHETIC WRAP, AND FOLD BACK OR CUT TOP HALF OF WIRE BASKET AND BURLAP FROM
THE ROOT BALL AFTER TREE IS PROPERLY POSITIONED AND PLUMB. OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE SHALL REVIEW AND
APPROVE TREE PLACEMENT PRIOR TO BACKFILLING.
13.SET PLANT PLUMB, TURNED TO FACE BEST SIDE OF PLANT FORWARD, AND BRACE FIRMLY IN POSITION. LOOSEN SURFACE
SOIL OF ROOT BALL AND COMB OUT ANY EXPOSED ROOTS PRIOR TO PLACEMENT OF LOAM.
14.USE PLANTING MIX TO BACKFILL PLANT PITS. PLANTING MIX SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 12” DEEP WITHIN PLANTING/SHRUB BED
AREAS. PLACE PLANTING MIX IN LAYERS NOT TO EXCEED 8 INCHES. WHEN PLANT PITS HAVE BEEN BACKFILLED WATER
THOROUGHLY BEFORE INSTALLING REMAINDER OF THE PLANTING SOIL TO ELIMINATE AIR POCKETS. ADD WATER UNTIL SOIL IS
THOROUGHLY SATURATED.
15.FORM 3" DEEP SOIL SAUCERS AROUND SHRUB BEDS & TREES.
16.WATER ALL PLANTS IMMEDIATELY AFTER PLANTING. ALL PLANTS SHALL BE FLOODED WITH WATER TWICE WITHIN FIRST 24
HOURS OF PLANTING. WATER SHALL BE FURNISHED BY THE CONTRACTOR AND SHALL BE POTABLE AND SUITABLE FOR
IRRIGATION AND FREE FROM INGREDIENTS HARMFUL TO PLANT LIFE. TREE BAGS, HOSE AND OTHER WATERING EQUIPMENT
REQUIRED FOR THE WORK SHALL BE FURNISHED BY THE CONTRACTOR.
17.MULCH ALL PITS AND BEDS WITH 3" OF DARK PINE BARK MULCH IMMEDIATELY AFTER FIRST WATERING. DEPTH SHALL BE
MEASURED AFTER SETTLEMENT. NO MULCH SHALL BE APPLIED PRIOR TO FIRST WATERING OF PLANTS.
18.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE MAINTENANCE AND WATERING DURING THE FIRST FULL GROWING SEASON MIN. 6 MONTHS
AND SHALL GUARANTEE SUCCESSFUL ESTABLISHMENT OF PLANTINGS FOR A PERIOD OF 1 YEAR. ANY PLANT THAT DIES
DEFOLIATES OR FAILS TO ESTABLISH DURING THAT TIME SHALL BE PROMPTLY REMOVED AND REPLACED AT NO ADDITIONAL
COST TO THE OWNER.
19.ALL TREES SHALL BE TAGGED AT THE NURSERY BY THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A MINIMUM
OF 7 DAY PRIOR NOTICE. OUT OF STATE TRAVEL SHALL BE PAID FOR BY THE CONTRACTOR.
20.ALL PLANTS SHALL BE LAID OUT PER THE PLAN AND APPROVED BY THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT PRIOR TO PLANTING.
ADJUSTMENTS TO PLANT LOCATIONS MAY ONLY BE MADE BY THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT. IF PLANTS ARE INSTALLED PRIOR
TO APPROVAL OF LOCATION BY THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE MADE TO REPLANT PER THE
DIRECTION OF THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER.
