May 9, 2021
Hello to All on the Old Kings Highway Historic District Committee,
I am writing to you so that you may take this letter into consideration for discussion of the “Old
Yarmouth Inn’s Summer Gardens” during the Monday, May 10th 2021 meeting.
I have lived in Yarmouth Port for approximately thirty years (not including summers on the Cape since I
was nine months old) and have been going to the “Old Yarmouth Inn” for approximately twenty of those
years. I love Yarmouth Port and as an Interior Designer with LEED certification, I feel especially
protective of architecture, environmental resources and I have a respect for history.
The authenticity and high quality of both the establishment and the owners, Arpad Voros and Sheila
Fitzgerald, have been an extraordinary benefit and joy to this community for many years. As one of the
best restaurants on the Cape, (if not in the entire state) whether dining on a Saturday night or
celebrating a special occasion with family and friends; it has been a blessing to have the “Old Yarmouth
Inn” right down the road on Route 6A. With a team that greets everyone with kindness and a warm
smile, the “Old Yarmouth Inn” is more than just a restaurant; Sheila and Arpad continue the tradition
that I imagine meant so much to the town and beyond, for all those many years ago.
We were very grateful when Arpad and Sheila opened up the “Summer Gardens,” where residents and
travelers alike share a “safe haven” - there is a connection here, the history and the tradition continues.
In addition, have you dined there or seen the “Summer Gardens?” It is enchanting; a very special and
safe outdoor environment that enhances all that is on Route 6A in Yarmouth Port. I, along with many
others, sincerely hope that you decide to continue the “Summer Gardens” permanently. For what
started as a safe respite during a difficult time should continue as the “silver lining” that grew from a
challenging period in our history. This, is what the “Old Yarmouth Inn” and it’s wonderful “Summer
Gardens” represents and which the owners continue the tradition to be, a part of our history.
I sincerely appreciate your consideration to keep the “Summer Gardens” open permanently, I thank you,
and many, many other patrons will thank you as well!
Kind regards,
Leslie H. Whitney
