Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section includes interior aluminum frames for wood doors installed in gypsum board partitions. B. Related Requirements: 1. Section 01 8113 “Sustainable Design Requirements” for general requirements and procedures for compliance with certain USGBC LEED prerequisites and credits. 2. Section 08 1113 “Hollow Metal Doors And Frames.” 3. Section 08 1214 “Trimless Metal Door Frames.” 4. Section 08 1416 "Flush Wood Doors" for flush wood doors installed in aluminum frames. 5. Section 08 4113 "Aluminum-Framed Entrances and Storefronts" for aluminum-framed entrance doors and storefront framing. 6. Section 09 2216 “Non-Structural Metal Framing" for metal studs adjoining metal frames. 1.3 PREINSTALLATION MEETINGS A. Preinstallation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site. 1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Make Submittals in accordance with Section 01 3300 “Submittal Procedures.” B. Product Data: For each type of product. 1. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes. C. Sustainable Design Submittals: 1. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD): Provide manufacturers’ product documentation for each product having an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). a. Documentation should confirm EPD conforms with ISO 14205 EN 15804 or ISO 21930. b. EPD shall have at least Cradle to Gate scope. c. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with MRc2 information for each product having an EPD. 2. Recycled Content: Provide manufacturers’ product documentation that includes recycled content claims for the products contributing towards compliance. Claims must conform to the definition in ISO 14021-1999, Environmental Labels and Declarations, Self-Declared Environmental Claims. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with MRc3 Option 2 information for products with recycled content installed in the building. D. Shop Drawings: For aluminum frames: 1. Include elevations, sections, and installation details for each wall-opening condition. 2. Include details for each frame type, including dimensioned profiles and metal thicknesses. 3. Include locations of reinforcements and preparations for hardware. 4. Include details of anchorages, joints, field splices, connections, and accessories. 5. Include details of moldings, removable stops, and glazing. E. Samples for Verification: For each type of the following products: 1. Framing Member and Finish: 12 inches long. Include trim. 2. Corner Fabrication and Finish: 12-by-12-inch- long, full-size window corner, including full-size sections of extrusions with factory-applied color finish. 3. Door Finish: Manufacturer's standard-size unit, but not less than 3 inches square. F. Product Schedule: For aluminum frames. Use same designations indicated on Drawings. Coordinate with door hardware schedule and glazing. 1.5 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS A. Maintenance Data: For aluminum frames to include in maintenance manuals. 1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Mockups: Build mockups to verify selections made under Sample submittals and to demonstrate aesthetic effects and to set quality standards for fabrication and installation. 1. Build mockup of each type of aluminum frame in typical wall area as shown on Drawings. 2. Approval of mockups does not constitute approval of deviations from the Contract Documents contained in mockups unless Architect specifically approves such deviations in writing. 3. Subject to compliance with requirements, approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion. 1.7 WARRANTY A. Manufacturer's Special Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace aluminum frames that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. 1. Warranty Period: a. Aluminum Frames: Two years from date of Substantial Completion. b. Metal Finish: Five years from date of Substantial Completion. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS A. Advanced Architectural Frames. 2. Alpha Aluminum Products, Inc. 3. Frameworks, Inc.; an ASSA ABLOY Group company. 4. Modulex Products, Inc. 5. RACO Interior Products, Inc. 6. Versatrac Frames; a division of American Door Products Inc. 7. Wilson Partitions; a division of Acradia, Inc. B. Source Limitations: Obtain aluminum frames from single source from single manufacturer. 2.2 LEED REQUIREMENTS A. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD): Provide products with Third Party Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) whenever available. B. Recycled Content: Provide products with the maximum recycled content possible. Minimum recycled content 20 percent. 2.3 COMPONENTS A. Aluminum Framing: ASTM B 221, with alloy and temper required to suit structural and finish requirements, and not less than 0.062 inch thick. B. Door Frames: Extruded aluminum, reinforced for hinges, strikes, and closers. C. Trim: Extruded aluminum, not less than 0.062 inch thick; removable, snap-in casing trim and door stops, without exposed fasteners. 1. Trim Style: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range. D. Doors: As specified in Section 08 1416 "Flush Wood Doors." E. Frame and Trim Finish: Clear-anodized aluminum. 2.4 ACCESSORIES A. Fasteners: Aluminum, nonmagnetic, stainless-steel or other noncorrosive metal fasteners compatible with frames, stops, panels, reinforcement plates, hardware, anchors, and other items being fastened. B. Door Silencers: Manufacturer's standard continuous mohair, wool pile, or vinyl seals in black color. 2.5 FABRICATION A. Provide concealed corner reinforcements and alignment clips for accurately fitted hairline joints at butted and mitered connections. B. Factory prepare aluminum frames to receive templated mortised hardware; include cutouts, reinforcements, mortising, drilling, and tapping, according to the Door Hardware Schedule and templates furnished as specified in Section 08 7100 "Door Hardware." Locate hardware cutouts and reinforcements as required by fire-rated label for assembly. C. Fabricate frames for glazing with removable stops to allow glazing replacement without dismantling frame. 1. Locate removable stops on the inside of spaces accessed by keyed doors. D. Fabricate components to allow secure installation without exposed fasteners. 2.6 GENERAL FINISH REQUIREMENTS A. Appearance of Finished Work: Noticeable variations in same piece are not acceptable. Variations in appearance of adjoining components are acceptable if they are within the range of approved Samples and are assembled or installed to minimize contrast. 2.7 ALUMINUM FINISHES A. Clear Anodic Finish: AAMA 611, AA-M12C22A31, Class II, 0.010 mm or thicker. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. B. Verify that wall thickness does not exceed standard tolerances allowed by throat size of indicated aluminum frame. C. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 INSTALLATION A. Install aluminum frames plumb, rigid, properly aligned, and securely fastened in place; according to manufacturer's written instructions. B. Install frame components in the longest possible lengths with no piece less than 48 inches; components 96 inches or shorter shall be one piece. 1. Use concealed installation clips to produce tightly fitted and aligned splices and connections. 2. Secure clips to extruded main-frame components and not to snap-in or trim members. 3. Do not leave screws or other fasteners exposed to view when installation is complete. 3.3 ADJUSTING A. Inspect installation, correct misalignments, and tighten loose connections. B. Clean exposed frame surfaces promptly after installation, using cleaning methods recommended in writing by frame manufacturer and according to AAMA 609 and AAMA 610. Touch Up: Repair marred frame surfaces to blend inconspicuously with adjacent unrepaired surface so touchup is not visible from a distance of 48 inches as viewed by Architect.
