FOLDING GRILLES
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.
1.2 SUMMARY
A. Section includes side-folding aluminum security grilles, manually operated.
B. Related Requirements:
1. Section 05 5000 “Metal Fabrications” for support framing and framed openings.
2. Section 08 3323 “Overhead Coiling Doors.”
3. Section 08 7100 “Door Hardware” for cylinder core and keys.
1.3 PREINSTALLATION MEETINGS
A. Preinstallation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site.
1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS
A. Make Submittals in accordance with Section 01 3300 “Submittal Procedures.”
B. Product Data: For each type of product.
1. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components
and profiles, and finishes for folding grilles.
C. Shop Drawings:
1. Include plans, elevations, sections, and installation details.
2. Include clearances required for operation, access requirements, storage pockets and
pocket doors, and accessory items.
D. Samples for Verification: For each type of exposed finish.
1. Include Samples of hardware and accessories to verify color and finish selection.
E. Product Schedule: For folding grilles. Use same designations indicated on Drawings.
1.5 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS
A. Qualification Data: For Installer.

1.6 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS
A. Operation and Maintenance Data: For folding grilles to include in operation and maintenance
manuals.
1.7 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Installer Qualifications: An entity that employs installers and supervisors who are trained and
approved by manufacturer of folding grilles.
1.8 FIELD CONDITIONS
A. Environmental Limitations: Do not deliver or install folding grilles until spaces are enclosed and
weathertight, wet work in spaces is complete and dry, and HVAC system is operating and
maintaining ambient temperature and humidity conditions at levels intended for building
occupants after completion of construction during the remainder of the construction period.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 FOLDING GRILLES
A. Description: Top-supported, horizontal-sliding, manually operated panel folding grilles, with
panels joined by continuous hinge connectors for the full height of panels.
1. Products: Subject to compliance with requirements, available products that may be
incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to the following or equal:
a. Dynamic Closures Corporation; Elite Model 126 B.
b. Overhead Door Corporation; Model 683.
c. Cornell-Cookson; GlideGard Side Folding Grille, Model ESG32.
B. Curtain Construction:
1. Provide 6-5/16 inches wide with 5-1/4 inch high bottom and top plates, truss-like
aluminum.
2. Panels connected with 1/8 by 5/8 inch by 6 inch aluminum links vertically spaced 12
inches apart on 5/16 inch aluminum rods spaced horizontally 3 inches apart; every other
rod covered with 1/2 inch aluminum tubes.
3. Pattern: Brick.
4. Connect panels with two-piece vertical aluminum tubular hinges.
C. Curtain Carriers: Dual bearing trolleys with 1.125 inch diameter tires.
D. Track:
1. Trolley Assemblies: 1-1/8 inch and adjustable 1 inch upward or downward without the
removal of the curtain.
2. Track: Heavy extruded aluminum, 1-3/8 inch wide by 1 5/8 inch high.
3. Curves: Type and locations as indicated on Drawings.
E. Locking:
1. Provide lead post with a concealed a hook bolt lock activated by a keyed cylinder that
engages a full height wall channel. Where required, provide a top and bottom spring
loaded locking post with interior keyed cylinder and dustproof floor sockets for all drop
bolts. Provide rubber bumper at the edge of locking post.

2. Intermediate posts:
a. Floor Mounted: Provide intermediate posts a maximum of 10 feet of curtain length.
b. At each curve provide intermediate posts a maximum of 6 feet.
c. Intermediate posts contain an adjustable concealed spring loaded drop bolt with
cylinder locks keyed alike. Provide with dustproof floor sockets for all drop bolts.
3. Traveling end post shall have an attached full height protection plate and shall be self
locking into a steel V-stop. End post are fixable to a wall when stacked in the opening
using top and bottom locking posts.
2.2 ALUMINUM FINISHES
A. Comply with NAAMM/NOMMA's "Metal Finishes Manual for Architectural and Metal Products
(AMP 500-06)" for recommendations for applying and designating finishes.
B. Clear Anodic Finish: AAMA 611, AA-M12C22A41, Class I, 0.018 mm or thicker.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine areas and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for
installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work.
B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. For folding grilles supported by or anchored to permanent construction, advise installers of
specific requirements for placement of anchorage devices. Furnish installers of other work with
templates and drawings indicating locations of anchorage devices and similar items.
3.3 INSTALLATION
A. Install folding grilles complying with manufacturer's written installation instructions. Install track
in one piece.
B. Use anchorage devices to securely fasten assembly to wall construction and building framing
without distortion or stress.
C. Securely and rigidly brace components suspended from structure. Secure guides to structural
members only.
D. Fit and align assembly including hardware; level and plumb, to provide smooth operation.
E. Install perimeter trim and closures.

3.4 ADJUSTING
A. Adjust units to ensure smooth, quiet operation without warping or binding. Adjust hardware to
function smoothly. Confirm that latches engage accurately and securely without forcing or
binding.
B. Pocket Doors: Adjust to operate smoothly and easily, without binding or warping. Adjust
hardware to function smoothly. Confirm that latches and locks engage accurately and securely
without forcing or binding.
3.5 CLEANING AND PROTECTION
A. Clean curtain and components using non-abrasive materials and methods recommended by
manufacturer. Remove labels and visible markings.
B. Touch-up, repair or replace damaged products before Substantial Completion.
C. Protect installed products until completion of project.
3.6 DEMONSTRATION
A. Engage a factory-authorized service representative to train Owner's maintenance personnel to
adjust, operate, and maintain folding grilles.
