Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section Includes: 1. Interior electrically operated, aluminum multi-leaf vertical lift doors, including factory installed glazing. 2. Exterior electrically operated, steel multi-leaf vertical lift doors, including factory installed glazing. B. Related Requirements: 1. Section 01 8113 “Sustainable Design Requirements” for general requirements and procedures for compliance with certain USGBC LEED prerequisites and credits. 2. Section 05 5000 "Metal Fabrications" for miscellaneous steel supports. 3. Section 08 3323 “Overhead Coiling Doors.” 4. Section 08 3613.13 “Glazed Aluminum Sectional Doors” for electrically-operated, glazed aluminum sectional overhead doors. 5. Section 08 8000 "Glazing" for glass and glazing requirements for factory glazing multi- leaf vertical lift doors. 6. Division 26 Sections “Electrical” for electrical power including conduit and wiring for motorized operators. 1.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Make Submittals in accordance with Section 01 3300 “Submittal Procedures.” B. Product Data: For each type and size of multi-leaf vertical lift door and accessory. 1. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components, profile door sections, and finishes. 2. Include rated capacities, operating characteristics, electrical characteristics, and furnished accessories. C. Sustainable Design Submittals: 1. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD): Provide manufacturers’ product documentation for each product having an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). a. Documentation should confirm EPD conforms with ISO 14205 EN 15804 or ISO 21930. b. EPD shall have at least Cradle to Gate scope. c. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with MRc2 information for each product having an EPD. Recycled Content: Provide manufacturers’ product documentation that includes recycled content claims for the products contributing towards compliance. Claims must conform to the definition in ISO 14021-1999, Environmental Labels and Declarations, Self-Declared Environmental Claims. a. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with MRc3 Option 2 information for products with recycled content installed in the building. 3. Health Product Declaration (HPD): Provide manufacturers’ product documentation for each product having a publically available material inventory down to at least 0.1 percent or 1000 ppm. a. Documentation should be in the form of one of the following: 1) A publically available inventory of all ingredients identified by name and Chemical Abstract Service Registration Number (CASRN). 2) A published, complete Health Product Declaration in compliance with the Health Product Declaration open Standard. 3) Material Health Certificate or Cradle to Cradle Certification under standard version 3 or later with a Material Health Achievement level at the Bronze level or higher. 4) A Declare product label indicating that all ingredients have been evaluated and disclosed down to 1000 ppm. 5) Cradle to Cradle Material Health Certificate at the Bronze Level or higher. b. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with MRc2 information for each product having an EPD. D. Shop Drawings: For each installation and for special components not dimensioned or detailed in manufacturer's product data. 1. Include plans and elevations based on field verified dimensions including opening dimensions and required tolerances, accessories and anchors, jamb details, connection details, anchorage spacing, hardware locations, and installation details. All shop drawings must be available in CAD and SolidWorks. 2. Include details of equipment assemblies. Indicate dimensions, required clearances, method of field assembly, components, and location and size of each field connection. 3. Include points of attachment and their corresponding static and dynamic loads imposed on structure. 4. Include diagrams for power, signal, and control wiring. a. Wiring Diagrams: Detail wiring for power, signal and control systems. Differentiate between manufacturer-installed wiring and between components provided by door manufacturer and those provided by Contractor. E. Samples for Verification: For each type of exposed finish on the following components, in manufacturer's standard sizes: 1. Flat door sections with sensor edge on bottom section. 2. Frame for paneled door sections; of each width of stile and rail required. 1.4 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS A. Qualification Data: For manufacturer and Installer. B. Provide certified third party validation of the performance requirements. C. Sample Warranties: For special warranties. Maintenance Data: For multi-leaf vertical lift doors to include in maintenance manuals. 1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing upward acting, vertically operating direct drive door products specified in this section with a record of successful in- service experience. B. Installer Qualifications: Documented authorized representative of the manufacturer certifying installers are a manufacturer factory trained installation company. Factory trained installer with certified welders and OSHA 30 compliant. 1.7 WARRANTY A. Special Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of multi-leaf vertical lift doors that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. 1. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following: a. Structural failures including, but not limited to, excessive deflection. b. Failure of components or operators before reaching required number of operation cycles. c. Faulty operation of hardware. d. Deterioration of metals, metal finishes, and other materials beyond normal weathering and use; rust through. e. Delamination of exterior or interior facing materials. 2. Warranty Period: Two years from date of Substantial Completion. B. Special Finish Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components that show evidence of deterioration of factory-applied finishes within specified warranty period. 1. Warranty Period: 10 years from date of Substantial Completion. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MANUFACTURERS, GENERAL A. Source Limitations: Obtain multi-leaf vertical lift doors from single source from single manufacturer. 1. Provide doors, motors, glazing and / or cladding, finish, battery backup supply, accessories and on-site pre-installation conference from one manufacturer for each door. 2.2 LEED REQUIREMENTS A. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD): Provide products with Third Party Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) whenever available. B. Recycled Content: Provide products with the maximum recycled content possible. Minimum recycled content 20 percent. Health Product Declaration (HPD): Provide products with publically available material inventories whenever available. 2.3 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. General Performance: Multi-leaf vertical lift doors shall comply with performance requirements specified without failure due to defective manufacture, fabrication, installation, or other defects in construction and without requiring temporary installation of reinforcing components. B. Structural Performance, Exterior Doors: Capable of withstanding the design wind loads. 1. Design Wind Load: As indicated on Drawings. 2. Deflection Limits: Design sectional doors to withstand design wind loads without evidencing permanent deformation or disengagement of door components. a. Deflection of door sections in horizontal position (open) shall not exceed 1/120 of the door width. b. Deflection of horizontal track assembly shall not exceed 1/240 of the door height. 3. Operability under Wind Load: Design overhead coiling doors to remain operable under uniform pressure (velocity pressure) of 50 lbf/sq. ft. wind load, acting inward and outward. C. Performance Requirements: 1. Air Infiltration (ASTM E283): 0.00 cfm/sq.ft. at both 1.57psf. and 6.24 psf. 2. Wind Load (ASTM E330): Passing design load test positive and negative of 25 psf and positive design load test to 61 psf. 3. Water Penetration (ASTM E331): Passing result up to 17psf water pressure. 4. Large Missile Impact Test (ASTM E1186): Passing Result on 3 Impacts 5. Thermal Transmittance (ANSI/NFRC 102): Meet or exceed 0.45 Btu/hr-ft²-F. D. Seismic Performance: Multi-leaf vertical lift doors shall withstand the effects of earthquake motions determined according to ASCE/SEI 7. 1. Component Importance Factor: 1.0. E. Safety Devices: Vertical lift doors shall be equipped with safety reverse or stop devices. 1. Provide a "Dead Man" button (immediate stop) located adjacent to the door opening in addition to any automated electric-eye censor button specified. Overhead doors must come to an immediate, full stop, without delay, and with no additional travel, when the Dead Man" stop button is pressed or the electric-eye censor is triggered. 2. All safety devices for vertical lift doors in the school shall be similarly designed and operate in the same manner. 3. Provide signage on the outside of each vertical lift door that reads "CHECK THAT ALL OBJECTS ARE CLEAR FROM DOORS AND GATES BEFORE CLOSING." F. Accessibility Requirements: Comply with applicable requirements of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Regulation 521 CMR, Architectural Access Board, as amended. 2.4 INTERIOR MULTI-LEAF VERTICAL LIFT DOORS A. Two Leaf Hinged Stacking Overhead Doors: Two horizontal panels hinged together, weather lapped at horizontal joint; rising vertically on roller and track system fixed to building structure to stack in a folded position under lintel. 1. Framework: Welded construction fabricated from extruded hollow section aluminum members with minimum wall thickness of 0.125 inch. Beams shall be de-signed for maximum dead load deflection of 1/300th part of the span. C. Operating Channels: Fabricated from carbon steel hot rolled sheet to comply with ASTM A-36. D. Counter Balancing: Counterweight system with enclosed counterweights suspended by 7/19 flexible multi-strand steel cables with minimum safety factor of 6:1. Cable shall be guided in steel sheaves with a minimum sheave to cable diameter ratio of 19:1. Sheaves shall be capable of carrying design loads. E. Load is contained in the jambs and does not require a load bearing header or any additional lateral supports F. Construct steel door sections from carbon steel hot rolled tube complying with ASTM A-513 Type 1 and ASTM A-36. G. Counterweight Covers: Counterweights shall be protected and covered with a re-movable pressed sheet aluminum or steel. H. Glass and Glazing: 1. Safety Glass Standard: Glass products complying with testing requirements in 16 CFR 1201, Category II. 2. Clear Laminated Glass: ASTM C1172. Use materials that have a proven record of no tendency to bubble, discolor, or lose physical and mechanical properties after fabrication and installation. a. Construction: Two plies of fully tempered float glass with polyvinyl butyral interlayer to comply with interlayer manufacturer's written instructions. b. Interlayer Color: Clear. c. Minimum Thickness of Each Glass Ply: 3 mm. d. Interlayer Thickness: 0.060 inch. 3. Glazing System: Manufacturer's standard factory-glazing system. 2.5 EXTERIOR MULTI-LEAF VERTICAL LIFT DOORS A. Two Leaf Hinged Counterbalanced Overhead Doors: Two horizontal panels hinged together, weather lapped at horizontal joint; rising vertically on roller and track system fixed to building structure to stack in a folded position under lintel. 1. Framework: Welded construction fabricated from rolled hollow section steel members with minimum wall thickness of 0.125 inch. Beams shall be designed for maximum dead load deflection of 1/300th part of the span. C. Counter Balancing: Counterweight system with enclosed counterweights suspended by 7/19 flexible multi-strand steel cables with minimum safety factor of 6:1. Cable shall be guided in steel sheaves with a minimum sheave to cable diameter ratio of 19:1. Sheaves shall be capable of carrying design loads. D. Load is contained in the jambs and does not require a load bearing header or any additional lateral supports E. Provide mechanical pin lock fail-safe device that prevents door movement automatically in the event of a counterbalance or lifting device failure. Safety brake shall automatically reset once repairs are completed and be capable of repeated engagement without replacement of brake or components. F. Construct steel door sections from carbon steel hot rolled tube complying with ASTM A-500 Grade B and ASTM A-36. G. Counterweight Covers: Counterweights shall be protected and covered with a removable pressed sheet aluminum or steel. H. Glass and Glazing: 1. Safety Glass Standard: Glass products complying with testing requirements in 16 CFR 1201, Category II. 2. Clear Insulating, Laminated Glass: Insulating-Glass Units: Factory-assembled units consisting of sealed lites of glass as indicated, separated by a dehydrated interspace, qualified according to ASTM E 2190, and complying with other requirements specified. a. Indoor And Outdoor Lites: Clear laminated glass with two plies of fully tempered float glass. 1) Minimum Thickness of Each Glass Ply: 3 mm. 2) Interlayer Thickness: 0.060 inch. b. Overall Unit Thickness: 1 inch. c. Interspace Content: Argon. 3. Glazing System: Manufacturer's standard factory-glazing system. 2.6 MOTORS A. Direct Drive Door Operating System: 1. Model: REDD™ (Renlita Electric Direct Drive), 1HP AC motor with 39:1 gear ration gearbox direct mounted to 1 inch door drive shaft. Provide motor with control panel (mounted separately) and controlled by a touch screen control station, photo eyes, and hardware necessary for installation of motor and control panel. a. Primary Speed Reduction: Worm gear-in-oil-bath reducer. Gear ratio shall be 39:1 with shaft speed of 34 RPM position is established by integrated shaft position encoder. b. Control Station: Provide touch screen control station capable of being mounted into single gang electrical box. c. Primary Entrapment Device: NEMA 4 Monitored Photo Sensors mounted maximum of 6 inches above the finished floor at each side of the door opening interior. Secondary Entrapment Device: REDD ALERT™ obstruction sensing technology. Door controls shall monitor the door operation for obstruction during the close cycle. If amperage increases above set limit, the motor shall stop and reverse direction. The sensitivity is set by a qualified installer during initial commissioning and shall be checked and adjusted annually. B. Provide electrical service and wiring connection as specified in Division 26. 2.7 SAFETY A. Upward acting, vertically operating, direct drive door system shall have a 3-part redundant brake safety system with an auto stop function integrated into the motor stopping the rotation of the drive shaft either in the event of a power outage or engaged at the control panel to prevent the door from moving as well as two “load lock” safety mechanisms, one on each ball screw, that are comprised of compatible metals preventing movement of the door except when operating the door to open or close. B. Constant Contact Operator: Provide key-activation of door to open and close and requires constant contact by operator located at the door to allow for operator supervision and control. C. Automatic Obstruction Sensing: Provide safety bottom edge where motor can be programed to stop or reverse if door bottom contacts an obstruction. D. Safety Certification: Door manufacturer shall provide instructor safety certification program to Owner. Door should only be operated by individuals with documented and signed safety training. Operation of door by untrained individual will result in nullification of all warranties. E. Audible and Visual Signals: Audible alarm and visual indicator lights in compliance with regulatory requirements for accessibility. 2.8 GLAZING A. Provide manufacturer’s standard 1-5/16 inch laminated, insulated glass, 40 STC. 1. Application shall comply with IBC 2405.1 requirements for sloped glazing. 2. System to allow glazing from either the interior or exterior. 2.9 FINISHES A. Comply with NAAMM/NOMMA's "Metal Finishes Manual for Architectural and Metal Products (AMP 500-06)" for recommendations for applying and designating finishes. B. High-Performance Organic Finish: Two-coat fluoropolymer finish complying with AAMA 2605 and containing not less than 70 percent PVDF or FEVE resin by weight in color coat. Prepare, pretreat, and apply coating to exposed metal surfaces to comply with coating and resin manufacturers' written instructions. 1. Color and Gloss: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range. Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for substrate construction and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. B. Examine locations of electrical connections. C. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 INSTALLATION A. Install multi-leaf vertical lift doors and operating equipment complete with necessary hardware, anchors, inserts, hangers, and equipment supports; according to manufacturer's written instructions and as specified. B. Tracks: Fasten vertical track assembly to opening jambs and framing, spaced not more than 24 inches apart. C. Accessibility: Install multi-leaf vertical lift doors, switches, and controls along accessible routes in compliance with regulatory requirements for accessibility. D. Power-Operated Doors: Install according to UL 325. 3.3 STARTUP SERVICES A. Engage a factory-authorized service representative to perform startup service. 1. Complete installation and startup checks according to manufacturer's written instructions. 2. Test and adjust controls and safety devices. Replace damaged and malfunctioning controls and equipment. 3.4 COMMISSIONING A. Facility Shell Commissioning: The building enclosure will be inspected and tested by the Commissioning Agent during construction. Comply with commissioning process requirements. 1. Inspections and tests by the Commissioning Agent will be on a “spot check” basis. The commissioning process does not reduce nor replace the responsibility of Contractor, subcontractors and material suppliers to provide a finished and fully functioning product. 2. Commissioning requirements shall in no way reduce or diminish the responsibility of Contractor, subcontractors, and material suppliers in performing the Work, including testing, as required by Contract Documents. Requirements specified in commissioning requirements are in addition to requirements specified in related specification sections. 3. Repair or replace materials, products and components damaged by testing at no additional cost to Owner. Replace materials, products and components that fail commissioning inspections and tests at no additional cost to Owner. Adjust hardware and moving parts to function smoothly so that doors operate easily, free of warp, twist, or distortion. B. Lubricate bearings and sliding parts as recommended by manufacturer. C. Adjust doors and seals to provide weather-resistant fit around entire perimeter. 3.6 DEMONSTRATION A.
