Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section includes factory-glazed, horizontal-sliding pass windows (at the Nurse’s Suite). B. Related Requirements: 1. Section 01 8113 “Sustainable Design Requirements” for general requirements and procedures for compliance with certain USGBC LEED prerequisites and credits. 2. Section 08 5113 “Aluminum Windows.” 3. Section 08 5653 “Security Windows.” 4. Section 08 8000 “Glazing.” 1.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Make Submittals in accordance with Section 01 3300 “Submittal Procedures.” B. Product Data: For each type of product. 1. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components and profiles, and finishes for window units. C. Sustainable Design Submittals: 1. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD): Provide manufacturers’ product documentation for each product having an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). a. Documentation should confirm EPD conforms with ISO 14205 EN 15804 or ISO 21930. b. EPD shall have at least Cradle to Gate scope. c. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with MRc2 information for each product having an EPD. 2. Recycled Content: Provide manufacturers’ product documentation that includes recycled content claims for the products contributing towards compliance. Claims must conform to the definition in ISO 14021-1999, Environmental Labels and Declarations, Self-Declared Environmental Claims. a. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with MRc3 Option 2 information for products with recycled content installed in the building. 3. Adhesives And Sealants: Provide manufacturers' or third-party certification of testing to and compliance with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard method v1.2-2017, that includes the following information: a. The exposure scenario used to determine compliance. The range of total VOCs after 14 days, measured as specified in the CDPH Standard Method v1.2: 1) 0.5 mg/m^3 or less; 2) Between 0.5 and 5.0 mg/m^3; or 3) 5.0 mg/m^3 or more. c. Laboratory accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025. d. Claims of compliance for wet-applied products must state the amount applied in mass per surface area. e. Provide MSDS or other manufacturer documentation with disclosure of VOC content for all wet-applied products. f. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with IEQc2 information for adhesives/sealants installed within the waterproofing membrane. D. Shop Drawings: For pass windows. 1. Include plans, elevations, sections, and attachments to other work. 2. Full-size section details of framing members, including reinforcement and stiffeners. 3. Hardware for sliding window units. 4. Glazing details. E. Samples for Verification: For each type of exposed finish required, prepared on Samples of size indicated below: 1. Framing: 12-inch-long sections of frame members. 1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Welding Qualifications: Qualify procedures and personnel according to the following: 1. AWS D1.2/D1.2M, "Structural Welding Code - Aluminum." 1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Pack pass windows in wood crates for shipment. Crate glazing separate from frames unless factory glazed. B. Store crated pass windows on raised blocks to prevent moisture damage. 1.6 FIELD CONDITIONS A. Field Measurements: Verify actual dimensions of openings by field measurements before fabrication. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 LEED REQUIREMENTS A. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD): Provide products with Third Party Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) whenever available. B. Recycled Content: Provide products with the maximum recycled content possible. Minimum recycled content 20 percent. Adhesives And Sealants: For field applications that are inside the weatherproofing membrane: Adhesives/sealants must be tested and determined compliant in accordance with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard Method v1.2-2017, using the applicable exposure scenario. The default scenario is the private office scenario. 1. All adhesives/sealants wet-applied on site must meet the applicable chemical content requirements of SCAQMD Rule 1168, October 6, 2017, Adhesive and Sealant Applications, as analyzed by the methods specified in Rule 1168. The provisions of SCAQMD Rule 1168 do not apply to adhesives and sealants subject to state or federal consumer product VOC regulations. 2.2 HORIZONTAL-SLIDING, PASS WINDOWS A. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Aluminum (SW) Series, No. SW1814A Sliding Service Window by C.R. Laurence Co., Inc. or comparable product by one of the following or equal: 1. Creative Industries, Inc. 2. Quikserv Corp. 3. Ready Access. B. Configuration: One fixed-glazed panel and one horizontal-sliding glazed panel. C. Framing: Fabricate perimeter framing, mullions, and glazing stops from aluminum as follows: 1. Profile: Manufacturer's standard, with minimum face dimension indicated. a. Minimum Face Dimension: 1-1/4 inches. 2. Depth: Manufacturer's standard. D. Head and Jamb Framing: Extruded aluminum. E. Sill: Extruded aluminum channel frame. F. Sliding Window Hardware: Provide roller track designed for overhead support of two- or four- wheel carriage supporting horizontal-sliding glazed panel and provide full bottom track. Provide manufacturer's standard pull and lock with two keys for each horizontal-sliding glazed panel. G. Glazing and Glazing Materials: Comply with requirements in Section 08 8000 "Glazing." 1. Float Glass: ASTM C 1036, Type I, Quality-Q3, Class I (clear). 2. Thickness: 6.0 mm. H. Materials: 1. Aluminum Extrusions: ASTM B 221. Provide alloy and temper recommended by manufacturer for strength, corrosion resistance, and application of required finish, but not less than 22,000-psi ultimate tensile strength. 2. Aluminum Sheet and Plate: ASTM B 209. 2.3 FABRICATION A. Fabricate pass windows to provide a complete system for assembly of components and anchorage of window units. 1. Provide units that are reglazable from the secure side without dismantling the nonsecure side of framing. Framing: Miter or cope corners the full depth of framing; weld and dress smooth. C. Glazing Stops: Finish glazing stops to match window framing. 1. Secure-Side (Exterior) Glazing Stops: Welded or integral to framing. 2. Nonsecure-Side (Interior) Glazing Stops: Removable, coordinated with glazing indicated. D. Welding: Weld components to comply with referenced AWS standard. To greatest extent possible, weld before finishing and in concealed locations to minimize distortion or discoloration of finish. Remove weld spatter and welding oxides from exposed surfaces by descaling or grinding. E. Metal Protection: Separate dissimilar metals to protect against galvanic action by painting contact surfaces with primer or by applying sealant or tape recommended by manufacturer for this purpose. F. Preglazed Fabrication: Preglaze window units at factory. Comply with requirements in Section 08 8000 "Glazing." 2.4 GENERAL FINISH REQUIREMENTS A. Comply with NAAMM/NOMMA 500 for recommendations for applying and designating finishes. B. Protect mechanical finishes on exposed surfaces from damage by applying a strippable, temporary protective covering before shipping. C. Appearance of Finished Work: Noticeable variations in same piece are not acceptable. Variations in appearance of adjoining components are acceptable if they are within the range of approved Samples and are assembled or installed to minimize contrast. 2.5 ALUMINUM FINISHES A. Clear Anodic Finish: AAMA 611, AA-M12C22A41, Class I, 0.018 mm or thicker. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of pass windows. B. Examine roughing-in for embedded and built-in anchors to verify actual locations of pass window connections before window installation. C. For the record, prepare written report, endorsed by Installer, listing conditions detrimental to performance of pass windows. D. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. Fastening to In-Place Construction: Provide anchorage devices and fasteners where necessary for securing pass windows to in-place construction. Include threaded fasteners for inserts, security fasteners, and other connectors. B. Fasteners: Install security windows using fasteners recommended by manufacturer with head style appropriate for installation requirements, strength, and finish of adjacent materials. C. Sealants: Comply with requirements in Section 07 9200 "Joint Sealants" for installing sealants, fillers, and gaskets. D. Metal Protection: Where dissimilar metals will contact each other, protect against galvanic action by painting contact surfaces with primer or by applying sealant or tape recommended in writing by manufacturer for this purpose. 3.3 ADJUSTING A. Adjust horizontal-sliding, transaction pass windows to provide a tight fit at contact points for smooth operation and a secure enclosure. B. Remove and replace defective work, including pass windows that are warped, bowed, or otherwise unacceptable. 3.4 CLEANING AND PROTECTION A. Clean surfaces promptly after installation of pass windows. Take care to avoid damaging the finish. Remove excess glazing and sealant compounds, dirt, and other substances. 1. Lubricate sliding pass window hardware. B. Clean glass of preglazed pass windows promptly after installation. Comply with requirements in Section 08 8000 "Glazing" for cleaning and maintenance. C. Provide temporary protection to ensure that pass windows are without damage at time of Substantial Completion. END OF SECTION (THIS PAGE IS BLANK)
