Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Work Included: Provide labor, materials and equipment necessary to complete the work of this Section, including but not limited to the following: 1. Shop-fabricated, felt fiber ceiling panels (blades). 2. Wire hangers, fasteners, main runners, cross tees, wall angle moldings and accessories. 3. Other items indicated on Drawings as Work of this Section. B. Related Requirements: 1. Section 01 8113 “Sustainable Design Requirements” for general requirements and procedures for compliance with certain USGBC LEED prerequisites and credits. 2. Section 09 5113 "Acoustical Panel Ceilings" for ceilings consisting of mineral-base and glass-fiber-base acoustical panels and exposed suspension systems. 3. Section 09 5163 “Seamless Acoustical Ceiling Systems" for seamless acoustical ceiling system including concealed grid suspension system. 4. Section 09 5425 “Linear Plastic Ceilings” for linear plastic (PVC) ceiling strips and suspension systems for exterior ceilings. 5. Section 09 5426 “Suspended Wood Ceilings” for wood-veneer, grille-panel ceilings. 6. Section 09 5446 “Acoustical Metal Pan Ceilings” for acoustical metal pans and suspension systems for interior ceilings. 7. Section 09 8433 “Sound-Absorbing Wall Units" for shop-fabricated, fabric-wrapped acoustic wall panel units tested for acoustical performance. 1.3 PREINSTALLATION MEETINGS A. Preinstallation Conference: Conduct conference at Project site. 1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Make Submittals in accordance with Section 01 3300 “Submittal Procedures.” B. Product Data: For each type of product. C. Sustainable Design Submittals: 1. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD): Provide manufacturers’ product documentation for each product having an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). Documentation should confirm EPD conforms with ISO 14205 EN 15804 or ISO 21930. b. EPD shall have at least Cradle to Gate scope. c. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with MRc2 information for each product having an EPD. 2. Recycled Content: Provide manufacturers’ product documentation that includes recycled content claims for the products contributing towards compliance. Claims must conform to the definition in ISO 14021-1999, Environmental Labels and Declarations, Self-Declared Environmental Claims. a. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with MRc3 Option 2 information for products with recycled content installed in the building. 3. Health Product Declaration (HPD): Provide manufacturers’ product documentation for each product having a publically available material inventory down to at least 0.1 percent or 1000 ppm. a. Documentation should be in the form of one of the following: 1) A publically available inventory of all ingredients identified by name and Chemical Abstract Service Registration Number (CASRN). 2) A published, complete Health Product Declaration in compliance with the Health Product Declaration open Standard. 3) Material Health Certificate or Cradle to Cradle Certification under standard version 3 or later with a Material Health Achievement level at the Bronze level or higher. 4) A Declare product label indicating that all ingredients have been evaluated and disclosed down to 1000 ppm. 5) Cradle to Cradle Material Health Certificate at the Bronze Level or higher. b. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with MRc2 information for each product having an EPD. 4. Ceilings: Provide manufacturers' or third-party certification of testing to and compliance with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard method v1.2-2017 that includes the following information: a. The exposure scenario used to determine compliance. b. The range of total VOCs after 14 days, measured as specified in the CDPH Standard Method v1.2: 1) 0.5 mg/m^3 or less; 2) Between 0.5 and 5.0 mg/m^3; or 3) 5.0 mg/m^3 or more. c. Laboratory accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025. d. Claims of compliance for wet-applied products must state the amount applied in mass per surface area. e. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with IEQc2 information for ceilings, walls, thermal and acoustical insulation products installed within the waterproofing membrane. D. Shop Drawings: For panel assembly and installation. 1. Include reflected ceiling plans, elevations, sections, and mounting devices and details. 2. Include details at joints and corners; and details at ceiling intersections and intersections with walls. Indicate panel edge profile and core materials. E. Samples for Verification: For the following products: 1. Colors: Submit 6 by 6 inch sample of colors selected in the ceiling design. 2. Suspension Components And Mounting Devices: Full-size Samples. 3. Assembled Panels: Approximately 12 by 36 inches, including mounting methods. Coordination Drawings: Reflected ceiling plans and other details, drawn to scale, on which the following items are shown and coordinated with each other, using input from installers of the items involved: 1. Electrical outlets. 2. Suspended ceiling components above ceiling panels. 3. Structural members to which suspension devices will be attached. 4. Items penetrating or covered by panels including the following: a. Lighting fixtures. b. Air outlets and inlets. c. Speakers. d. Alarms. e. Sprinklers. f. Access panels. B. Product Certificates: For each type of panel. C. Sample Warranty: For manufacturer's special warranty. 1.6 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS A. Maintenance Data: For each type of panel to include in maintenance manuals. Include manufacturer's written cleaning and stain-removal instructions. 1.7 MAINTENANCE MATERIAL SUBMITTALS A. Furnish extra materials, from the same product run, that match products installed and that are packaged with protective covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents. 1. Ceiling Units: Furnish quality of full-size units equal to 2.0 percent of amount installed. 2. Exposed Suspension System Components: Furnish quantity of each exposed suspension component equal to 1.0 percent of amount installed. 1.8 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Mockups: Build mockups to verify selections made under Sample submittals, to demonstrate aesthetic effects, and to set quality standards for materials, fabrication, and installation. 1. Build mockup of typical ceiling area 96 inches wide by full width of ceiling. Include intersection of wall and ceiling, corners, and perimeters. 2. Approval of mockups does not constitute approval of deviations from the Contract Documents contained in mockups unless Architect specifically approves such deviations in writing. 3. Subject to compliance with requirements, approved mockups may become part of the completed Work if undisturbed at time of Substantial Completion. 1.9 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Comply with fabric and panel manufacturers' written instructions for minimum and maximum temperature and humidity requirements for shipment, storage, and handling. Deliver materials and panels in unopened bundles and store in a temperature-controlled dry place with adequate air circulation. 1.10 FIELD CONDITIONS A. Environmental Limitations: Do not install panels until spaces are enclosed and weathertight, wet-work in spaces is complete and dry, work at and above ceilings is complete, and ambient temperature and humidity conditions are maintained at the levels indicated for Project when occupied for its intended use. B. Lighting: Do not install fabric-wrapped ceiling panels until a permanent level of lighting is provided on surfaces to receive the panels. C. Air-Quality Limitations: Protect panels from exposure to airborne odors, such as tobacco smoke, and install panels under conditions free from odor contamination of ambient air. D. Field Measurements: Verify panel locations and actual dimensions of openings and penetrations by field measurements before fabrication, and indicate them on Shop Drawings. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 LEED REQUIREMENTS A. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD): Provide products with Third Party Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) whenever available. B. Recycled Content: Provide products with the maximum recycled content possible. Minimum recycled content 20 percent. C. Health Product Declaration (HPD): Provide products with publically available material inventories whenever available. D. Ceilings: Ceiling, must be tested and determined compliant in accordance with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard Method v1.2-2017, using the applicable exposure scenario. The default scenario if the private office scenario. 2.2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Fire-Test-Response Characteristics: Panels shall comply with "Surface-Burning Characteristics" or "Fire Growth Contribution" Subparagraph below, or both, as determined by testing identical products by UL or another testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction: 1. Surface-Burning Characteristics: Comply with ASTM E 84 or UL 723; testing by a qualified testing agency. Identify products with appropriate markings of applicable testing agency. a. Flame-Spread Index: 25 or less. b. Smoke-Developed Index: 450 or less. 2. Fire Growth Contribution: Comply with acceptance criteria of local code and authorities having jurisdiction when tested according to NFPA 286. Formed Felt Fiber Ceiling Panels: Manufacturer's standard panel construction consisting of non-woven layered and formed polyester felt (PET) fiber panels with color throughout. 1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide FELTWORKS Blades Ebbs & Flows by Armstrong World Industries, Inc. or a comparable product by one of the following or equal: a. Certainteed. b. Impact Acoustic. c. Proudfoot Company, Inc. (The). d. Turf Design. 2. Composition: Non-woven layered and formed Polyester felt (PET) fiber. 3. Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range. 4. Blade Shape: Flat with Ebbs & Flows. 5. Edge Profile: Square. 6. Corner Detail in Elevation: Square. 7. Nominal Panel Thickness: 3/8 inch. 8. Blade Height: Height varies per manufacturer design. 9. Blade Length: a. 96 inch Ebbs & Flows Blades. b. 48 inch Ebbs & Flows Blades. 10. Mounting: Top mounted with manufacturer's standard suspension system. 2.4 FORMED FELT FIBER CEILING PANELS (TYPE 3.2) A. Formed Felt Fiber Ceiling Panels: Manufacturer's standard panel construction consisting of non-woven layered and formed polyester felt (PET) fiber panels with color throughout. 1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide FELTWORKS Rectangular Blades by Armstrong World Industries, Inc. or a comparable product by one of the following or equal: a. Certainteed. b. Impact Acoustic. c. Proudfoot Company, Inc. (The). d. Turf Design. 2. Composition: Non-woven layered and formed Polyester felt (PET) fiber. 3. Color: As selected by Architect from manufacturer's full range. 4. Blade Shape: Flat. 5. Edge Profile: Square. 6. Corner Detail in Elevation: Square. 7. Blade Thickness: 3/8 in. 8. Blade Height: 6 in. 9. Blade Length: 96 in. 10. Blade Spacing: 8 in. o.c. 11. Mounting: Top mounted with manufacturer's standard suspension system. 2.5 METAL SUSPENSION SYSTEM A. Metal Suspension-System Standard: Provide manufacturer's standard, direct-hung, metal suspension system and accessories according to ASTM C 635/C 635M and designated by type, structural classification, and finish indicated. Extruded-Aluminum Suspension System: Suspension bar formed from extruded aluminum to produce structural members for hanging blades. 1. Basis-of-Design Products: As listed below by Armstrong World Industries, Inc. a. Item 8230: 96 in. suspension bar for 3/8 in. blades. b. Item 6651AB: 96 in. suspension bar end-to-end connectors. c. Item 6655: Blades hanging kit. 2.6 FABRICATION A. Standard Construction: Use manufacturer's standard construction. B. Measure each area and establish layout of panels and joints of sizes indicated on Drawings within a given area. C. Dimensional Tolerances of Finished Panels: Plus or minus 1/16 inch for the following: 1. Thickness. 2. Edge straightness. 3. Overall length and width. 4. Squareness from corner to corner. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine fabricated panels, substrates, areas, and conditions for compliance with requirements, installation tolerances, and other conditions affecting panel performance. B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 INSTALLATION A. Install panels in locations indicated. Unless otherwise indicated, install units with edges in alignment with walls and other panels, faces flush, and scribed to fit adjoining work accurately at borders and at penetrations. B. Comply with panel manufacturer's written instructions for installation of panels using type of mounting devices indicated. Mount panels securely to supporting substrate. 3.3 CLEANING A. Clean panels on completion of installation to remove dust and other foreign materials according to manufacturer's written instructions. END OF SECTION
