Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section Includes: 1. Field-applied, vinyl-character signs (letters and numbers). a. Door numbers, field-applied, die-cut vinyl-characters. b. Room numbers, field-applied, die-cut vinyl-characters. 2. Field-applied vinyl-graphics (artwork and photo-images). B. Related Requirements: 1. Section 01 8113 “Sustainable Design Requirements” for general requirements and procedures for compliance with certain USGBC LEED prerequisites and credits. 2. Section 10 1423.19 "Smoke- And Fire-Rated Partition Signage" for code-required signage. 3. Section 10 1426 "Panel Signage." 4. Section 10 1423 "Traffic Signage." 5. Section 14 0001 "Elevators" for code-required conveying equipment signage. 6. Division 21 Sections "Plumbing" for labels, tags, and nameplates for plumbing systems and equipment. 7. Division 23 Sections "Heating, Ventilating and Air-Conditioning" for labels, tags, and nameplates for HVAC systems and equipment. 8. Division 26 Sections "Electrical" for labels, tags, and nameplates for electrical equipment and for illuminated, self-luminous, and photoluminescent exit sign units. 1.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Make Submittals in accordance with Section 01 3300 “Submittal Procedures.” B. Product Data: For each type of product. C. Sustainable Design Submittals: 1. Adhesives And Sealants: Provide manufacturers' or third-party certification of testing to and compliance with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard method v1.2-2017, that includes the following information: a. The exposure scenario used to determine compliance. b. The range of total VOCs after 14 days, measured as specified in the CDPH Standard Method v1.2: 1) 0.5 mg/m^3 or less; 2) Between 0.5 and 5.0 mg/m^3; or 3) 5.0 mg/m^3 or more. Laboratory accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025. d. Claims of compliance for wet-applied products must state the amount applied in mass per surface area. e. Provide MSDS or other manufacturer documentation with disclosure of VOC content for all wet-applied products. f. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with IEQc2 information for adhesives/sealants installed within the waterproofing membrane. D. Shop Drawings: For field-applied, vinyl-character signs and vinyl-graphics. 1. Show mounting heights and locations. 2. Show message list, typestyles, graphic elements, and layout for each sign full size. E. Samples for Verification: For each type of sign assembly showing all components and with the required finish, in manufacturer's standard size unless otherwise indicated and as follows: 1. Field-Applied, Vinyl-Character Signs: Full-size Sample of characters on glass. 2. Field-Applied, Vinyl-Graphics: Full-size Sample on painted gysum board. 3. Full-size Samples, if approved, will be returned to Contractor for use in Project. F. Product Schedule: For field-applied, vinyl-character signs and vinyl-graphics. Use same designations indicated on Drawings. 1.4 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS A. Qualification Data: For Installer and manufacturer. B. Sample Warranty: For special warranty. 1.5 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS A. Maintenance Data: For field-applied, vinyl-character signs and vinyl-graphics to include in maintenance manuals. 1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installer Qualifications: Manufacturer of products or an entity that employs installers and supervisors who are trained and approved by manufacturer. 1.7 WARRANTY A. Special Warranty: Manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of field-applied, vinyl- character signs and vinyl-graphics that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. 1. Warranty Period: Five years from date of Substantial Completion. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the Work include, but are not limited to, the following or equal: 1. HEXIS Graphics, HEXIS USA (tel. 951-310-9686) 2. Words Anywhere (tel. 303-834-8122). 3. FDC Graphic Films, Inc. (tel. 800-634-7523). 2.2 LEED REQUIREMENTS A. Adhesives And Sealants: For field applications that are inside the weatherproofing membrane: Adhesives/sealants must be tested and determined compliant in accordance with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard Method v1.2-2017, using the applicable exposure scenario. The default scenario is the private office scenario. 1. All adhesives/sealants wet-applied on site must meet the applicable chemical content requirements of SCAQMD Rule 1168, October 6, 2017, Adhesive and Sealant Applications, as analyzed by the methods specified in Rule 1168. The provisions of SCAQMD Rule 1168 do not apply to adhesives and sealants subject to state or federal consumer product VOC regulations. 2.3 FIELD-APPLIED, VINYL-CHARACTER SIGNS A. Field-Applied, Vinyl-Character Sign: Prespaced characters die cut from 3- to 3.5-mil thick, weather-resistant vinyl film with release liner on the back and carrier film on the front for on-site alignment and application. 1. Size: As indicated or, if not indicated, 3 inches high. 2. Substrate: Glass and painted metal doors or frames. 3. Text: a. Room numbers. b. Door numbers. 4. Font: As selected by Architect. 5. Font Color: As selected by Architect. 6. Locations: a. Exterior Room Numbers: In each room with an exterior window, provide one field- applied, 4 inch high reflective vinyl room number sign applied to the glass in the lower right hand corner of one window in each room, unless indicated otherwise on Drawings. b. Interior Room Numbers: On each door frame into rooms occupied by more than 5 persons but less than 50, provide one field-applied, 1-1/2 inch high reflective vinyl room number, applied to door frame head and centered between the jambs. c. Exterior Door Numbers: On each exterior door (not including aluminum and glass entrance doors), provide one field-applied, 3 inch high reflective vinyl door number, on the interior and on the exterior surfaces of each door, 54 inches above the threshold and centered between the jambs. d. Other locations as indicated. Field-Applied Vinyl-Graphics: Graphics die cut from 3- to 3.5-mil thick, weather-resistant vinyl film with release liner on the back and carrier film on the front for on-site alignment and application. 1. Sizes: As indicated on Drawings. 2. Substrate: Gypsum board. 3. Locations: As directed by Architect. 4. Graphics: As provided by Owner. 2.5 MATERIALS A. Vinyl Film: UV-resistant vinyl film of nominal thickness indicated, with pressure-sensitive, permanent adhesive on back; die cut to form characters or images as indicated on Drawings and suitable for exterior applications. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrates and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances and other conditions affecting performance of the Work. B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 INSTALLATION A. Field-Applied, Vinyl-Character Signs And Graphics: Clean and dry substrate. Align sign characters in final position before removing release liner. Remove release liner in stages, and apply and firmly press characters into final position. Press from the middle outward to obtain good bond without blisters or fishmouths. Remove carrier film without disturbing applied vinyl film. 1. Do not apply vinyl-character signs or vinyl-graphics to painted surfaces until field-applied paint has been applied and fully cured (minimum 72 hours). B. Field-Applied, Vinyl-Character Signs And Vinyl-Graphics Mounted on Glass: Provide opaque sheet matching sign material and finish onto opposite side of glass to conceal back of sign. 3.3 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING A. Remove and replace damaged or deformed field-applied, vinyl-character signs and vinyl- graphics that do not comply with specified requirements. B. On completion of installation, clean exposed surfaces of field-applied, vinyl-character signs and vinyl-graphics according to manufacturer's written instructions. Maintain field-applied, vinyl- character signs and vinyl-graphics in a clean condition during construction and protect from damage until acceptance by Owner. END OF SECTION
