Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.2 SUMMARY A. Section includes top loading electric kilns. B. Related Requirements: 1. Division 26 Sections "Electrical" for electrical service. 1.3 ACTION SUBMITTALS A. Make Submittals in accordance with Section 01 3300 “Submittal Procedures.” B. Product Data: For each type of product indicated. Include rated capacities, operating characteristics, dimensions and furnished accessories for each kiln. C. Product Schedule: For kilns. Use same designations indicated on Drawings. 1.4 INFORMATIONAL SUBMITTALS A. Qualification Data: For qualified Installer and manufacturer. B. Product Certificates: For each type of kiln, from manufacturer. C. Field quality-control reports. D. Warranties: Sample of special warranties. 1.5 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS A. Operation and Maintenance Data: For each type of kiln to include in operation and maintenance manuals. 1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installer Qualifications: An employer of workers trained and approved by manufacturer for installation and maintenance of kilns required for this Project. Source Limitations: Obtain kilns from single source and each type of kiln from single manufacturer. C. Regulatory Requirements: 1. NFPA: Provide electrical appliances listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, by a qualified testing agency, and marked for intended location and application. 1.7 WARRANTY A. Special Warranties: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace residential appliances or components that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period. 1. Warranty Period: Two years from date of Substantial Completion. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 KILNS A. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide KilnSitter Model KMT-1027 by Skutt Ceramic Products, Portland, OR (tel. 503-774-6000), or a comparable product by one of the following or equal: 1. AIM Manufacturing Company. 2. Cress Manufacturing Company, Inc. 3. Paragon Industries. B. Description: Single car shuttle kiln with 31 cu. ft. of stacking space. 1. Power Requirements: a. Voltage: 208 Volt, three phase. b. Amps: 31.7. c. Watts: 11,000. 2. Maximum Cone: 10. 3. Maximum Temperature: 2350. 4. Chamber: a. Depth: 27 inches. b. Opening Width: 23 inches. c. Capacity: 7 cu. ft. 5. BTU’s: 22,000 Btu. C. Provide the following accessories: 1. 1027 Rolling kiln stand. 2. Envirolink. 3. Envirovent 2. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 EXAMINATION A. Examine substrates and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for installation tolerances, power connections, and other conditions affecting installation and performance of kilns. Prepare written report, endorsed by Installer, listing conditions detrimental to performance of the Work. C. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. 3.2 INSTALLATION, GENERAL A. General: Comply with manufacturer's written instructions. B. Place kilns in final locations after finishes have been completed in each area. Verify that clearances are adequate to properly operate equipment. C. Utilities: Comply with electrical requirements. 3.3 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Perform tests and inspections. 1. Manufacturer's Field Service: Engage a factory-authorized service representative to inspect components, assemblies, and equipment installations, including connections, and to assist in testing. B. Tests and Inspections: 1. Perform visual, mechanical, and electrical inspection and testing for each kiln according to manufacturers' written recommendations. Certify compliance with each manufacturer's performance parameters. 2. Operational Test: After installation, start units to confirm proper operation. 3. Test and adjust controls and safeties. Replace damaged and malfunctioning controls and components. C. A kiln will be considered defective if it does not pass tests and inspections. D. Prepare test and inspection reports. 3.4 DEMONSTRATION A. Engage a factory-authorized service representative to train Owner's personnel to adjust, operate, and maintain kilns.
