ENTRANCE FLOOR MATS AND FRAMES
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Division 01 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.
1.2 SUMMARY
A. Section includes carpet-type tile entrance cocoa mats and surface mounted tapered vinyl
frames (MAT-02).
B. Related Requirements:
1. Section 12 4816 "Entrance Floor Grilles" for rigid floor grilles and frames.
1.3 COORDINATION
A. Coordinate size and location of recesses in concrete to receive floor mats and frames.
1.4 ACTION SUBMITTALS
A. Make Submittals in accordance with Section 01 3300 “Submittal Procedures.”
B. Product Data: For each type of product.
1. Include construction details, material descriptions, dimensions of individual components
and profiles, and finishes for floor mats and frames.
C. Sustainable Design Submittals:
1. Recycled Content: Provide manufacturers’ product documentation that includes recycled
content claims for the products contributing towards compliance. Claims must conform to
the definition in ISO 14021-1999, Environmental Labels and Declarations, Self-Declared
Environmental Claims.
a. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with MRc3 Option 2 information
for products with recycled content installed in the building.
2. Flooring Systems: Provide manufacturers' or third-party certification of testing to and
compliance with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard method
v1.2-2017 that includes the following information:
a. The exposure scenario used to determine compliance.
b. The range of total VOCs after 14 days, measured as specified in the CDPH
Standard Method v1.2:
1) 0.5 mg/m^3 or less;
2) Between 0.5 and 5.0 mg/m^3; or
3) 5.0 mg/m^3 or more.
c. Laboratory accreditation under ISO/IEC 17025.

d. Claims of compliance for wet-applied products must state the amount applied in
mass per surface area.
e. Complete "LEED Materials Documentation Sheet" with IEQc2 information for
flooring systems installed within the waterproofing membrane.
D. Shop Drawings:
1. Items penetrating floor mats and frames, including door control devices.
2. Perimeter floor moldings (frames).
E. Samples: For the following products, in manufacturer's standard sizes:
1. Floor Mat: Assembled sections of floor mat.
2. Frame Members: Sample of each type and color.
1.5 CLOSEOUT SUBMITTALS
A. Maintenance Data: For floor mats and frames to include in maintenance manuals.
1.6 MAINTENANCE MATERIAL SUBMITTALS
A. Furnish extra materials that match products installed and that are packaged with protective
covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents.
1. Resilient-Tile Entrance Mats: Full-size tile units equal to 2 percent of amount installed,
but no fewer than 10 units.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 LEED REQUIREMENTS
A. Recycled Content: Provide products with the maximum recycled content possible. Minimum
recycled content 20 percent.
B. Flooring Systems: Flooring products must be tested and determined compliant in accordance
with California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard Method v1.2-2017, using the
applicable exposure scenario. The default scenario if the private office scenario.
2.2 CARPET-TILE ENTRANCE MATS
A. Carpet-Type Tiles: Polypropylene carpet bitumen backing to form mats 3/8 thick with
nonraveling edges.
1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Diagonal Tile
by Mats, Inc., or a comparable product by one of the following or equal:
a. American Floor Products Company, Inc.
b. Flexco.
c. Musson Rubber Company.
d. Pawling Corporation; Architectural Products Division.
2. Colors, Textures, and Patterns: As selected by Architect from full range.
3. Tile Size: 19-11/16 by 19-11/16 inches.

2.2 RESILIENT ENTRANCE MATS (MAT-02)
A. Cocoa Mats: Constructed from cocoa fiber yarn permanently bonded to PVC backing for
dimensional stability and resistance to shedding; 5/8- to 3/4-inch overall thickness; 1.5-lb/sq. ft.
weight.
1. Color: As selected by Architect from full range of industry colors.
2. Mat Size: As indicated.
2.3 FRAMES
A. Surface-Mounted Frames: Aluminum angle frame members, 3/8 inch high (to match mat
thickness) by not less than 1-1/2 inches wide, with welded mitered corners
1. Extruded Aluminum: ASTM B 221, Alloy 6061-T6 or Alloy 6063-T5, T6, or T52.
a. Finish: Mill finish.
2.4 INSTALLATION ACCESSORIES
A. Trowelable Leveling and Patching Compounds: Latex-modified, hydraulic-cement-based
formulation.
B. Adhesives: Water-resistant, mildew-resistant, nonstaining, pressure-sensitive type to suit
products and subfloor conditions indicated.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Examine substrates and floor conditions for compliance with requirements for location, sizes,
and other conditions affecting installation of floor mats and frames.
B. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Install surface-type units to comply with manufacturer's written instructions; coordinate with
entrance locations and traffic patterns.
1. Anchor fixed surface-type frame members to floor with devices spaced as recommended
by manufacturer.
3.3 PROTECTION
A. After completing frame installation and concrete work, provide temporary filler of plywood or
fiberboard in recesses and cover frames with plywood protective flooring. Maintain protection
until construction traffic has ended and Project is near Substantial Completion.
