The work of this section shall be included in the Plumbing Subcontractor Sub Bid. Refer to Section 22 0001: PLUMBING FILED SUB-BID SUMMARY for additional requirements. 1.02 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS A. The Conditions of the Contract and General Requirements of the Project Manual apply to this Subcontractor, material suppliers, and all other persons furnishing labor and materials under this Section. The General Conditions, and applicable parts of Division 01 are included as part of this Section. B. Examine all Project Specifications and Drawings for requirements which affect work of this Section whether or not such work is specifically mentioned in this Section. C. Coordinate work with that of all other trades affecting or affected by work of this Section. Cooperate with such trades to assure the steady progress of all work under the Contract. D. The following definitions apply to the Drawings and Specifications: 1. Furnish: The term "furnish" is used to mean "supply and deliver to the Project Site, ready for unloading, unpacking, assembly, installation, and similar operations". 2. Install: The term "install" is used to describe operations at the Project Site including actual "unloading, unpacking, assembly, erection, piecing, anchoring, applying, working to dimension, finishing, curing, protecting, cleaning, and similar operations". 3. Provide: The term "provide" is used to mean "furnish and install, complete and ready for the intended use". 4. Installer: An "installer" is the Contractor or an entity engaged by the Contractor, either as an employee, Subcontractor, or Sub-Subcontractor for performance of a particular construction activity, including installation, erection, application, and similar operations. Installers are required to be experienced in the operations they are engaged to perform. E. When open-flame or spark producing tools such as blow torches, welding equipment, and the like are required in the process of executing the work, the General Contractor shall be notified not less than twenty four (24) hours in advance of the time that the work is to begin and the location where work is to be performed. Provide fire protective covering and maintain constant non- working fire watch where work is being performed until it is completed. 1.03 DESCRIPTION OF WORK A. Provide all labor, materials, equipment, services and accessories necessary to furnish and install the work of this Section, complete and functional, as indicated in the Contract Documents and as specified herein. B. The work covered by this Section of the Specifications includes the furnishing of all labor and materials and in performing all operations in connection with the installation of the Plumbing Work. Without limiting the generality thereof, the work to be performed under this Section includes: 1. Domestic water service to 10 ft. outside building and/or as shown on the Drawings. 2. Complete Sanitary, Waste & Vent System to 10 ft. outside building and/or as shown on the drawings. 3. Kitchen waste system including exterior grease trap and interior grease traps. Exterior grease trap to be provided with dedicated vent and terminate at building roof. 4. Domestic Cold, Hot, and Hot Water Re-circulation System. 5. Make-up water for HVAC. 6. Natural Gas System. Run gas piping to Hot water heaters, boilers, RTU’s, MAU and kitchen equipment, 7. Gas solenoid valve interlocked with ansul system and co detectors for kitchen exhaust hood. 8. New storm system including roof drains and overflow drains as indicated on the drawings. Provide temporary rain leader piping as required to divert water from roofs out of the building and into stormwater collection structure in accordance with the project stormwater prevention plan in the event that permanent rain leader system is not installed or ready to be utilized. 9. Furnish and install domestic water heater air intake and exhaust breeching. 10. Hot water Heater and Boiler flue air intake and vent. 11. Insulation. 12. Domestic Water Heating Equipment. 13. Fixtures and Equipment 14. Inline solids interceptor at art sinks and recessed solids interceptor for floor drain at pottery wheels. 15. Elevator sump pump with alarm panel pumped to an oil interceptor. 16. All floor drains and floor sinks to be provided with trap primers whether shown on the drawings or not. 17. Sub-metering of domestic hot water & boiler make-up water. ATC sub-contractor to supply meters for installation by Plumbing Contractor. 18. Sub-metering of gas system as indicated on the drawings. ATC sub-contractor to supply meters for installation by Plumbing Contractor. 19. Connection to Equipment Furnished by Others 20. Flushing, Sterilization, and Tests 21. Furnishing of Access Panels 22. Drilling, Coring and Cutting & Patching of holes and openings where the largest dimension thereof does not exceed 12 inches for Plumbing Piping and Equipment. 23. Provide and maintain temporary water service as directed by General Contractor. General Contractor to pay for all water use. 24. Scaffolding, Rigging, and Staging required for all Plumbing Work. Comply with Division 01 requirements. 25. Provide Seismic Restraints for all Plumbing Systems conforming to the requirements of Section 23 05 48 which Section is herein incorporated by reference. Seismic restraints are required on all new systems whether in new or existing building. Preparation of Coordination Drawings. 27. Smoke and Firestopping Seals and sealing of all wall penetrations as detailed on the drawings. Refer to Section 07 8413 which defines the firestopping materials and methods. 28. At Project close out the Plumbing Sub-Contractor shall provide the services of an outside firm who shall run an underground video camera, locating all drainage system lines including depth, preparing a video and identifying & correcting any problem areas. The Plumbing Sub- Contractor shall rod-out and power wash all underground drainage systems. Turn over 4 copies of the video and written report to the owner. Videos are required for the underground sanitary, and garage waste. 29. It shall be the responsibility of this division 22 0001 to provide all personnel necessary to fully coordinate with the commissioning agent. The hours of training and instruction outlined in this division 22 0001 and the Testing requirements shall be in addition to those tests and requirements outlined in section 01 9113 and required to fulfill section 01 9113 commissioning obligations. 30. Electric Power Wiring: SECTION 26 0000 - ELECTRICAL 4. HVAC Equipment: SECTION 23 0000 - HVAC 5. Excavation and Backfill: DIVISION 31 - EARTHWORK 6. Sanitary Sewer and storm drains to 10 feet outside the foundation wall: DIVISON 33 - UTILITIES 7. Finish Painting: SECTION 09 0007 EXTERIOR PAINTING and SECTION 09 0007 – INTERIOR PAINTING. 8. Roofing: Section 07 0002 – Roofer to install clamping ring and strainer basket. 9. Installation of Access Panels: SECTION 08 3113 describing material in which panel is installed. 10. Toilet Room Accessories: SECTION 10 2800 – TOILET, BATH, AND UTILITY ROOM ACCESSORIES 11. Temporary Facilities: SECTION 01 5000 - TEMPORARY FACILITIES AND CONTROLS 1.05 CODES, ORDINANCES, AND PERMITS A. Perform all work in accordance with the requirements of the Town of Easton Building Department, Massachusetts State Plumbing and Fuel Gas Codes, D.E.P., A.D.A., NFPA, The Architectural Barrier Code, and applicable State and Federal Laws. Where the Contract Documents indicate more stringent requirements than the above Codes and Ordinances, the Contract Documents shall take precedence. B. Obtain all permits, inspections, and approvals, from the governing authorities and pay all fees and include cost in the bid, including approvals for the cross-connection control device. Provide the Owner with the cross-connection permit for the device in the Owner's name. C. Owner will pay all related Gas Utility Company back charges. 1.06 DISCREPANCIES IN DOCUMENTS A. Where Drawings or Specifications conflict or are unclear, advise Designer in writing before Award of Contract. Otherwise, Designer's interpretation of Contract Documents shall be final, and no additional compensation shall be permitted due to discrepancies or unclarities thus resolved. B. Where Drawings or Specifications do not coincide with manufacturers' recommendations, or with applicable codes and standards, alert Designer in writing before installation. Otherwise, make changes in installed work as Designer requires within Contract Price. C. If the required material, installation, or work can be interpreted differently from drawing to drawing, or between drawings and specs, this contractor shall provide that material, installation, or work which is of the higher standard. D. It is the intent of these contract documents to have the contractor provide systems and components that are fully complete and operational and fully suitable for the intended use. There may be situations in the documents where insufficient information exists to precisely describe a certain component or subsystem, or the routing of a component. In cases such as this, where the contractor has failed to notify the Designer of the situation in accordance with the paragraph above, the contractor shall provide the specific component or subsystem with all parts necessary for the intended use, fully complete and operational, and installed in workmanlike manner either concealed or exposed per the design intent. E. In cases covered by the paragraph above, where the contractor believes he needs engineering guidance, he shall submit a sketch identifying his proposed solution and the Designer shall review, note if necessary, and approve the sketch. F. HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Electrical Drawings are diagrammatic. They indicate general arrangements of mechanical and electrical systems and other work. They do not show all offsets required for coordination nor do they show the exact routings and locations needed to coordinate with structure and other trades and to meet architectural requirements. G. In all spaces, prior to installation of visible material and equipment, including access panels, review Architectural Drawings for exact locations and where not definitely indicated, request information from Designer. H. Check Contract Drawings as well as Shop Drawings of all subcontractors to verify and coordinate spaces in which work of this Section will be installed. I. Maintain maximum headroom at all locations. All piping and associated components to be as tight to underside of structure as possible. J. Make reasonable modifications in layout and components needed to prevent conflict with work of other trades and to coordinate according to Paragraphs A, B, C, D above. Systems shall be run in a rectilinear fashion. Where conflicts or potential conflicts exist and engineering guidance is desired, submit sketch of proposed resolution to Designer for review and approval. 1.07 SHOP DRAWING AND MATERIAL SCHEDULES A. Refer to SECTION 01 3300 – SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES for submittal of Shop Drawings. If apparatus or materials are substituted for those specified, and such substitution necessitates changes in or additional connections, piping, supports or construction, same shall be provided as the responsibility, and at the expense, of the Plumbing Subcontractor. B. Fabrication of any material or performing of any work prior to the final approval of the Submittals will be entirely at the risk of the Subcontractor. The Subcontractor is responsible for furnishing and installing materials called for in the Contract Documents, even though these materials may have been omitted from approved Submittals. C. Submit Shop Drawings for the following materials and equipment. 1. Valves, Piping, couplings and Fittings 2. Fixtures, Drains and Equipment including Supports 3. Backflow Preventers 4. Access Panels and Covers 5. Insulation 6. Drains 7. Grease traps, oil interceptors and solid interceptors. 8. Hose Bibs, Wall Hydrants 9. Hangers, Anchors, Guides, and Supports including Seismic Restraints 10. Cleanouts 11. Piping Identification System 12. Water Heating Equipment 13. Water heater air intake and exhaust breeching including coordinated working drawings of installation. 14. Natural Gas and Water Sub-meters. 1.08 COORDINATION DRAWINGS A. Before materials are purchased or Work is begun, prepare and submit to the Architect, Coordination Drawings showing the size and location of all equipment and piping lines relevant to the complete system. Ensure that these Drawings are compatible and correctly annotated and cross-referenced at their interfaces (match lines). B. Coordination Drawings are for the Contractor's and the Architect's use during Construction and shall not be construed as replacing any Shop or Record Drawings required elsewhere in these Contract Documents. C. Detailed procedures for Coordination Drawings are contained in SECTION 01 3100 – COORDINATION of these Contract Documents. 1.09 RECORD DRAWINGS Dennis Yarmouth Intermediate Middle School January 19, 2021 Dennis Yarmouth Regional School District 100% Construction Documents Perkins Eastman DPC, project #71011 Addendum No. 2, February 12, 2021 22 0001 PLUMBING 6 of 29 A. General: Refer to SECTION 01 7700 – CLOSEOUT PROCEDURES for general requirements for maintaining as-built drawings and submitting final reproducible record documents. B. The Construction Manager will provide two sets of Drawings to the Plumbing Subcontractor, one set of which shall be maintained at the site and which shall, at all times, be accurate, clear, and complete, showing the actual locations of all equipment and piping as it is being installed. The Record Drawings shall be available to the Architect/Engineer's field representative at all times. C. Provide electronic AutoCAD drawings to indicate revisions to piping size and location both exterior and interior; including locations of valves and other equipment requiring periodic maintenance or repair; actual equipment locations, dimensioned from column lines; concealed equipment, dimensioned to column line; mains and branches of piping systems, with valves and control devices located and numbered, concealed unions located, and with items requiring maintenance located. D. Include in the Record Drawings any addenda, sketches, and supplementary Drawings issued during the course of construction. E. Non-availability of Record Drawings or inaccuracies therein will postpone the final inspection until they are available. F. All valves shown on these Drawings shall be numbered with numbers corresponding to those on the valve charts. G. All costs related to the foregoing requirements shall be paid by the Plumbing Subcontractor. 1.10 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS AND MAINTENANCE MANUALS A. Provide operating instructions to the Owner's designated representative with respect to operation functions and maintenance procedures for all equipment and systems installed. At the completion of the project, turn over to the Architect four (4) complete manuals, in three-ring, loose-leaf binders, containing the following: 1. Complete Shop Drawings of all equipment. 2. Operation description for all systems. 3. Names, addresses, and telephone numbers of all suppliers of the system. 4. Preventative maintenance instructions for all systems. 5. Spare parts lists of all system components. 6. Four copies of video of below slab piping. 7. Valve tag chart. 1.11 GUARANTEE A. Refer to Division 01 of the Contract. Guarantee all work under this Section free from defects in workmanship and materials for a period of one (1) year from the date of final acceptance of the building, as set forth in the Contract. Replace any such defective work developing during this period, unless such defects are clearly the result of bad usage of equipment by others. Where such defective work results in damage to work of other Sections of the Specifications, restore such work to its original condition by mechanics skilled in the affected trade. 1.12 DRAWINGS A. All work shown on the Drawings is intended to be approximately correct to scale, but shall be taken in a sense as diagrammatic. Sizes of pipes and general method of running them are shown, but it is not intended to show every offset and fitting. The Plumbing Drawings are intended to show the main stacks and risers and may or may not necessarily show all runout piping particularly in lavatories and gang toilet areas. Contractor shall include all runout piping to all referenced scheduled fixtures and equipment appearing on the Plumbing Drawings. B. All floor drains installed on this project, including all kitchen floor drains and trough drains, shall be equipped with trap primers. The trap primer and piping is not shown on the drawings and shall be located in the filed by the Contractor as dictated by field piping conditions. C. The Plumbing Drawings and Specifications are intended to supplement each other so that any details shown on the Drawings and not mentioned in the Specifications, or vice-versa, shall be executed the same as if mentioned in the Specifications and shown on the Drawings. D. Refer to the Architectural, Structural, and other Mechanical and Electrical Drawings, which indicate the construction in which this Work shall be installed. Locations shown on the plans shall be checked against the general and detailed Drawings of the construction proper. All measurements shall be taken at the Building. 1.13 VALVE TAGS, NAMEPLATES, AND CHARTS A. All valves on pipes of every description shall have neat circular brass valve tags at least 1-1/2 in. in diameter attached with brass hook to each valve stem. Stamp on these valve tags, in letters as large as practical, the number of the valve and the service, such as "H.W., C.W., GAS", for hot water, cold water, and gas respectively. The numbers for each service shall be consecutive. Where valves are located above ACT ceilings, furnish and install valve finder ceiling tack, tack shall be minimum 7/8 in. diameter with 1/2 in. steel point, color as determined by Owner. B. All valves on tanks and pumps shall be numbered by 3 in. red metal discs with white numbers 2 in. high, secured to stem of valves by means of small solid link brass chain, to correspond to numbers indicated for valves on the Record Drawings and on two (2) printed detailed lists. These printed lists shall state the numbers and locations of each valve and the fixture or group of fixtures which it controls, and other necessary information such as requiring the opening or closing of another valve or valves when any one valve is to be opened and closed, and shall be prepared in form to meet approval of the Architect, and shall be framed under glass. C. Nameplates, catalog numbers, and rating identifications shall be securely attached to Electrical and Mechanical equipment with screws or rivets. Adhesives or cements will not be permitted. 1.14 PIPE MARKER IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM A. Mark all piping installed under this Section and at all Access Panels with a marking system in basic colors conforming to those specified in ANSI/ASME A-13.1. Markings shall indicate pipe content and direction of flow. Markers shall be applied at all valves and tee joints, and on straight runs of pipe at every 20 ft.-0 in. on center. Adhesive markings are not acceptable. Markers shall be painted on under the scope of this Section or may be snap-on system. B. Clearly mark potable and non-potable water system with 4 inch wide colored bands, with arrow for direction of flow, every twenty-five (25) feet on center on all piping installed whether it is concealed or exposed and also on both sides of floor and/or wall penetrations. Mark potable water green and non-potable yellow. Within 6 in. of each band identify with letter "Potable C.W.", Non-Potable H.W." Color of letter shall match banding. Snap-on are not to be used Dennis Yarmouth Intermediate Middle School January 19, 2021 Dennis Yarmouth Regional School District 100% Construction Documents Perkins Eastman DPC, project #71011 Addendum No. 2, February 12, 2021 22 0001 PLUMBING 8 of 29 1.15 SANITARY, WASTE, VENT AND KITCHEN WASTE AND VENT SYSTEMS A. Furnish and install complete Sanitary, Waste, Vent, Kitchen Grease Waste and Vent, and Storm Drainage Systems (all hereinafter called Drainage Systems) to convey wastes from all Soil and Waste Stacks, Fixtures, Equipment, Kitchen Fixtures, and Roof Drains as indicated and/or described in these Plans and Specifications. Urinal waste shall be 2 in. cast iron or sizes indicated on the drawings. Waste piping smaller than 3 in. shall not be used underground. The use of double "Y's" in the horizontal shall not be permitted. All piping shall be installed straight and true and located concealed within building construction. B. All horizontal Drainage Systems Piping within the building, 3 in. and smaller, shall be pitched at least 1/4 in. per ft. in the direction of flow. Drainage Piping 4 in. and larger shall be pitched at least 1/8 in. per ft. Make changes in direction of drainage lines with 45 wyes, long turn wyes, or sweep bends. C. Furnish and install all cleanouts indicated on the Drawings and/or where required in Drainage Pipes regardless of size so that the distance between cleanouts does not exceed 45 ft. o.c. Cleanouts shall be installed at the base of all risers and at each change of direction. D. Refer to drawings for termination points, which generally are connection to existing piping or to 10 feet outside the building. E. The kitchen Grease Waste System shall be a completely separate system beginning at the exterior grease interceptor through the kitchen and vented individually through the roof. Do not connect soil lines to the grease waste nor sanitary vents to the grease vent. Furnish and install the cast iron tees and associated piping within the grease trap including 5-foot length on the outlet. All the piping within the grease trap shall be made up with caulked and leaded joints. Install an exterior cleanout as detailed at the point where the line leaves the kitchen area. Grease trap is furnished by the plumber and set in place including manhole access covers by the General Contractor. 1.16 DOMESTIC WATER SYSTEMS A. Furnish, install, sterilize, and test in accordance with the documents and the Plumbing Code, complete potable and non-potable Domestic Cold, Hot, and Hot Water Recirculating Systems including all piping, valves, low point drains, shock absorbers, hangers, insulation, backflow preventers, balancing valves and water heating equipment. Clearly mark the systems as provided above. This work shall start as indicated on the Drawings. B. In general, piping shall pitch upward in the direction of flow with each branch and riser separately valved and with 1/2 in. hose end drain on the outlet side of the valve and at all low points in the system. Install shutoff valves for each battery of fixtures and other valves as necessary to isolate any part of each system. C. Install shock absorbers on hot and cold water piping to each fixture. Provide shock absorbers at all quick closing valves and as shown on the Drawings and/or specified. D. Install a 1/2 inch hose bibb in each toilet room provided with a floor drain. The hose bibb shall be installed under a lavatory. E. Install a 1/2 inch hose bibb in each mechanical room. F. Furnish and install a ball valve, balancing valve and check valve at each hot water recirculation line before it connects to another hot water recirculation line. G. All components of the domestic water system shall be “lead free” per federal Standards. Furnish and install a complete Natural Gas Supply System including pipe, fittings, valves, connections to all gas fired equipment requiring gas, and all accessories and incidentals as indicated or specified. Installation shall be made in accordance with the State Gas Code requirements. Piping shall be installed with an 8 in. long sediment leg at the base of all risers. All changes in direction shall be made with plugged tees for cleaning piping out. B. All horizontal Gas Piping shall be pitched not less than 1/4 in. in 15 ft. to prevent traps. Pitch piping to risers. Install an 8 in. long sediment leg at the base of all risers. All changes in direction shall be made with plugged tees for cleaning piping out. All horizontal branch outlet pipes shall be taken from the top or side of horizontal mains and not from the bottom. Install shutoff valves for each battery of equipment and other valves as necessary to isolate any part of each system. C. Arrange with the Local Gas Company for the installation of the gas meters, services, and gas pressure regulators. Refer to DIVISION 01 - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS for information regarding Utility Company Charges. D. Provide seismic restraints for all gas piping per requirements of the Mass. Building Code. Refer also to Section 230548. E. Plumbing Sub-Contractor shall furnish and install all gas vents for all knockdown regulators whether furnished by this Section, HVAC, or any other Section. 1.18 EQUIPMENT FURNISHED BY OTHERS A. Miscellaneous items, including but not necessarily limited to the following, shall be furnished and set by others as specified in other SECTIONS of the Documents. 1. Dishwashers 2. Kitchen Equipment 3. Ice Maker 4. Undercounter refrigerator 5. Washers B. Verify the extent of the connection requirements from the General and Mechanical Plans and Specifications and be responsible for: Setting in place, all such sinks and furnishing and installing trim and roughing including, but not limited to, drains, vent, water, gas, air or other plumbing piping, traps, tailpiece, nipples, escutcheons, faucets, and stop valves for all items which above are not so supplied. The equipment sections specify sinks including faucets and tailpieces as well as countertop turrets for gas. Include for all sinks which are installed in cabinet work a pair of 1/2 in. ball valve stops (same as specified under 2.04) and a rough bronze p-trap, special waste trap, or sediment trap. C. The Plumbing Subcontractor shall be responsible in making final connections to all equipment furnished by others to ascertain complete cross-connection prevention compliance and to furnish and install vacuum breaker and backflow preventers which may be required to be Code compliant and are not so furnished with the equipment. Coordinate exact locations of all holes or all sleeves with architect/structural engineer prior to installation. Provide dimensional sleeve/hole drawings, as required. B. Each hot water heater to be gas-fired of the size and capacity noted, glass lined complete with Watts, or equal, pressure / temperature relief valve, vacuum breaker, thermostatic mixing valve, Expansion tank and shut-off valves on hot and cold-water piping. 2. DWH-1 & 2 Gas-Fired Hot Water Heater to be Lochinvar Model SLR401-125, or equal, high efficiency condensing type having 125-gallon storage capacity, 399,000 BTU/HR gas input, 145 GPH, 40 to 140 degrees F and 96% efficiency. Tank shall be of glass-lined steel tank construction and design certified by the Underwriter Laboratories under Volume III tests for commercial heaters. Tank shall be constructed in accordance with ASME code 125# working pressure and shall bear the ASME labels. The condensing flue coil shall be coated on the flue gas side with an acid resistant glass lining designed for use in condensing heaters. Combustion Air and Vent Flues for high efficiency condensing type gas-fired domestic hot water heaters and boilers shall be furnished and installed by the Plumbing subcontractor. The installation shall be performed in strict accordance with the manufacturer’s installation manual. 1. Combustion air and vent flues shall be of the non-metallic type (high temperature CPVC) and of the size as specifically recommended by the equipment manufacturer, complete with weather proof concentric fitting, thimbles, flashing, fire stop spacers (at all wall/floor/ceiling penetrations) and all required fittings & accessories to make a complete and operable installation. 2. Plumbing Contractor responsible for boiler flue and combustion air piping. Coordinate with HVAC contractor for manufacturer recommendations for material and termination type. Provide inline backflow preventers Watts Model 9 D for any kitchen equipment required by code, including but not limited to coffee machine, ice machines, dishwashers and pot sink. 5. Provide Gas solenoid valve system interlocked with ansul system and co/methane detection. Refer to drawings for more information, V. SUMP PUMPS A. General: Sump pumps to be Stancore, Little Giant or Webtrol. B. Sump pumps at Elevator Pits shall be Stancore Model SE-50, or approved equal, of all stainless steel construction and with 10’ power cord and integral float switch, 50 GPM @ 25’ head, 1/3 HP, 115V/1 PH. 1. Each elevator sump pit pump shall be provided with an Water Minder detection system, or approved equal, oil/water detection system complete with control panel, alarm panel, oil “film” level sensor, 10’ power cord and extra set of dry contacts for DDC monitoring, 115V/1 Ph power. Connection to BAS shall be by ATC sub-subcontractor under HVAC Section. W. EXTEIOR GREASE TRAP 1. Grease trap shall be provided and piped by the Plumbing Sub-contractor. Site contractor will install the grease trap and provide the covers to grade. Refer to Civil drawings and details for more information. 2. Grease trap shall be of reinforced precast concrete construction. Connections, capacity and openings shall be as detailed on the drawing P-2.02 Structure shall be reinforced for H20 loading. A minimum 24-inch diameter opening shall be cast in the center of the tank and over the inlet and outlet tees. Manhole covers shall be raised to finish grade by providing watertight precast 24-inch i.d. risers, or approved equal. Each riser shall be topped with a watertight frame and cover per Section 2.03, brought to finished grade as shown on the civil plans. X. DOMESTIC WATER/GAS SUB-METERS 1. Sub-meters are furnished by ATC Sub-contractor and installed by Plumbing Contractor. The work of this section shall be coordinated with that of associated trades. B. The Contractor shall be fully responsible for the proper execution and performance of the work described herein. C. Pipe shall be cut accurately to measurements established at the site, shall be worked into place without springing or forcing. All pipes, without and exceptions throughout the job, shall be reamed smooth and all burrs removed before being installed. All work shall be executed in a workmanlike manner and shall present a neat and mechanical appearance. All pipes shall run parallel or perpendicular to building lines and shall be properly graded. All pipe connections shall be made in a manner that will allow for freedom of movement during expansion and contraction. All installation methods shall comply fully with all applicable Codes and Standards. All plumbing work shall be in accordance with the State Plumbing Code (248 CMR). D. Piping system shall be installed so as to have sufficient flexibility to prevent thermal expansion caused damages to the piping materials or anchors, leakage at joints or distortion at connected equipment. The flexibility shall be provided by properly designed offsets, loops or expansion joints. All pipe lines containing expansion joints or loops shall contain anchors and guides and shall be made in the horizontal position to avoid water pocketing. E. Unions or Flanges and valves shall be provided to all plumbing equipment allowing proper replacement or servicing. F. This contractor shall coordinate and provide all necessary information to the General Contractor of all plumbing related penetrations, opening, access, cutting and patching requirements. G. No plumbing fixtures, devices equipment or piping shall be installed which will provide a cross connection between a distribution supply for cold water or domestic hot water system and a polluted supply or drainage system. H. Fixtures, equipment and accessories shall be set level, plumb and in proper alignment with reference to adjacent walls. All surfaces coming in connection with walls, floors or other equipment and fixtures shall have properly leveled surfaces with suitable contact on wall and floor. I. Clean all exposed metal surfaces of grease, oil, dirt or other foreign material. Chrome plated piping, fittings and trimmings shall be polished upon completion. Fixtures and equipment shall be properly protected from damage during the construction period and shall be cleaned in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. The Plumbing Subcontractor shall be held responsible for the proper location of all blocking and supports and proper alignment of all fixtures. Unless otherwise noted, all trim above and below fixtures shall be chrome plated. Upon completion of work, adjust all stop valves, flush valves, balancing valves, control valves and faucets. 3.2: SANITARY & RAINWATER LEADER SYSTEM - INSTALLATION A. B. All changes in pipe size and direction on soil and waste piping shall be made with Y’s and clean out, reducing fittings or recessed reducers. Y’s and 45-degree fittings or 45-degree combination fittings shall be used wherever conditions permit. C. Sanitary long sweep bends and Y’s shall be used for connections on branch lines for fixtures and TY’s on vertical runs of pipe. Long turn fittings shall be used wherever conditions permit. D. All fittings, regardless of type, shall be furnished complete with the necessary bolts, nuts and washers, as well as brass or chrome plated nipples of the proper length. E. Clean out shall be installed where indicated on the drawings, or approximately every 50 feet (50') for 4" and smaller and every 100 feet (100') for 5" and larger along horizontal runs, at all changes of direction, and at the base of all soil and waste stacks. Test tees with brass clean out plugs shall be installed at the base of all vertical piping. Clean out in or back of walls shall be extended out to finished wall and finished with flush metal access panel. Clean out located above hung ceiling are to be accessible through metal access panels. F. Vents shall be extended sufficiently above roof so that outlet shall be minimum of 24" above roof. G. Fittings for piping above ground shall be drainage pattern for all threaded and/or soldered drain and waste piping. H. Horizontal piping shall be installed with a pitch of not less than 1/8" per foot, unless otherwise indicated. Buried piping shall be laid on a firm bed surrounded by 2 diameters of pea stone for its entire length, except where support is otherwise provided for and approved by the Architect prior to backfilling. All vents shall be provided as shown and in accordance with local requirements. Provide hangers, as noted above in this section. 3.3: DOMESTIC HOT AND COLD-WATER SYSTEM - INSTALLATION A. Also refer to 22 00 10-3.01. B. All water piping shall be installed without traps or pockets and shall pitch to draw-offs so that the whole system or individual sections can be completely drained. Piping shall be graded and valved to allow for complete drainage of the system. All draw-off valves shall have hose connections and shall be capped. Piping shall be pitched upward toward risers and fixtures for proper air relief. Piping subject to expansion shall be flexible and made to accept shock without damage or noise. C. Change in pipe sizes shall be made with concentric reducing fitting. Use of bushing shall not be permitted. D. All water piping shall be protected from water hammer by use of manufactured shock absorbers, with air chamber separated from water contact, at ends of all branch risers, ends of battery branches and at all fixtures. E. Water piping shall be installed complete to all plumbing fixtures. F. Check with Local Authorities regarding any specific requirements above and beyond the specified herein. Service work shall include connection to the gas service at the meter location. B. Work shall include a complete elevated pressure and low-pressure gas piping system for all gas-fired equipment as indicated on the drawings, complete with all necessary pressure reducing regulators and vent piping, as required. C. Refer to other parts of this SECTION for description of piping, valves and other appurtenances to the gas system. D. Piping inside the building shall be installed as shown, firmly secured to building structure with mains and branches all graded evenly to drip points. Gas shut-off valves shall be provided on branches to all risers at each appliance or outlet connection, and where shown. Suitable approved drip pockets shall be provided at all low points in piping. Straight malleable iron couplings shall be used in extending the piping. 3.5: TESTING OF PIPING SYSTEMS A. General 1. Test all piping systems with water at the pressure head stated for the time interval required without adding water. While any system is being tested, required head pressure shall be maintained until all joints are inspected. 2. All tests shall be witnessed by the inspector having jurisdiction with 48-hour notice given these authorities. 3. Provide all equipment, material, and labor required for testing any of the various systems or any part thereof. B. Sanitary and Rainwater Leader Systems 1. Test all drainage systems either in their entirety or in sections as required, after rough piping has been installed. Each section shall be filled with water but no section shall be tested with less than a ten-foot head of water. In testing successive sections at least, the upper ten feet of the next preceding section shall be tested so that no joint of piping in the building except the upper most ten feet of the systems shall be submitted to a test of less than a ten-foot head of water. The water shall be kept in the system for at least 15 minutes before the inspection starts, the system shall than be made tight at all points. C. Interior Water Piping Systems 1. Upon completion of the entire water supply system or a section of it as required, it shall be tested and proved tight under water pressure of 150 psi. Gauge should be located on the lowest point in the system and pressure shall hold for a period of one hour without introducing additional water. The water used for testing shall be from a potable source of supply. D. Natural Gas System 1. Test entire natural gas system in strict accordance with the local gas company requirements but, not at less than 6 inches of mercury. Additional Tests 1. Provide all additional tests such as smoke or pressure tests as required by the regulations or as directed by authorities making the inspection. 2. Provide for any repeated test as directed by the Architect, to make all systems tight as required. Upon completion of the work, and after the systems are set, this Subcontractor shall conduct performance tests of the various systems. These tests shall be carried out under the supervision of the Architect prior to acceptance of the systems and shall be arranged for the purpose of demonstrating satisfactory functional and operating efficiency and he will provide all adjustments, ladders, lubricants, test equipment and personnel required for these tests. 3. Visual inspections of joints, valves, shall be made as directed by the Architect. F. Defective Work 1. If inspection or tests show defects, such defective work or material shall be replaced and inspection tests shall be repeated. All repairs to piping shall be made with new material. No caulking or screwed joints or holes will be acceptable. 3.6: DISINFECTION OF WATER SYSTEM A. All water piping shall be filled with a solution of chlorine and water (0.5-1.5 ppm) and allowed to stand for at least 48 hrs. After the system has been drained and flushed, and refilled, a sample of the water shall be taken to the local health department for testing. If it has been that all impurities have not been removed, the above shall be repeated until the system is free of all impurities and has been approved by the Department of Health. A copy of said certificate shall be turned over to the Architect for record. 3.7: VALVE TAGS AND CHARTS A. All valves on pipes of every description shall have neat circular brass valve tags of at least 1-1/2" in diameter, attached with brass hook to each valve stem. Stamp on these valve tags in letters as large as practical the number of the valve and the service zone, such as “H.W.”, “C.W.” etc. for hot water, cold water, etc. respectively. The numbers of each service shall be consecutive. B. These numbers shall correspond to the numbers indicated for the valves on the record drawings and on two printed detailed lists. These printed lists shall state the numbers and locations of each valve and fixture or group of fixtures which it controls, and other necessary information, such as requiring the opening or closing of another valve or valves, when any one valve is to be opened or closed. C. These printed lists shall be typed and framed under glass and mounted as directed by the Architect. 3.8: CLEANING AND ADJUSTING A. After the completion of the work, all material and equipment surfaces shall be cleaned and polished in accordance with the finish of the material. All chromed surfaces shall be highly polished. All systems shall be thoroughly adjusted for perfect intended operation. Flushometers, faucets, tempering valves shall be adjusted for flow, temperature of water. The Plumbing contractor shall instruct and fully demonstrate to such person or persons as the Architect and/or Owner may designate, regarding the care and use of the plumbing system(s) and all apparatus pertaining thereto. B. At the time of final acceptance, the Plumbing Subcontractor shall furnish three bound sets of complete instructions for repair, maintenance, and operation of the system. 3.10: INSPECTION A. The subcontractor shall inspect all surfaces, areas and other contingent construction in or to which his work is to be installed and assure himself that they are in proper condition to receive the work to be performed under this section. The Contractor shall notify the Architect in writing, before any work is installed, of any condition requiring corrections. Failure to make such a report shall be construed as acceptance of the existing conditions and the responsibility to provide an acceptable installation. 3.11: COORDINATION A. Obtain detailed information from the manufacturers of apparatus which is to be furnished as to the proper method of installing and connecting same. Obtain all information from the General Contractor (or Owner) and other contractors which may be necessary to facilitate the work and to complete the whole project. B. Refer to the HVAC drawings and also to all other drawings for a full comprehension of the extent and detail of the work to be performed. Any HVAC work indicated, on any drawings, is to be considered as required. C. This subcontractor, before installing any of his work shall see that it does not interfere with the clearance required for finished columns, pilasters, partitions, walls, and ceilings, as shown on the contract Architectural Drawings and details. D. Any work installed by this subcontractor, which interferes with or modifies the Architectural designs as shown on the contract drawings shall be changed as directed and at all costs incident to such changes shall be paid by the subcontractor. E. In any and all cases of discrepancy in figures, plans or specifications, the matter shall be immediately submitted to the Architect for decision before doing any work. 3.12: WORKMANSHIP A. Any and all work under this section of the Specification found improper or of poor workmanship shall be removed, repaired, and/or replaced at no additional expense to the Contract. B. The Plumbing work shall be performed in harmony with other work in the building, and at such times as to not interfere with or hold back in an unwarranted manner any other trade. The Plumbing work shall be installed as fast as conditions will allow, and it must be ready for use when the building is complete. In the event that any changes are required because of the installation of any substitutions, the costs of such shall be borne by the Plumbing Contractor making such substitutions. All work shall be performed in strict accordance with local and state codes and regulations of such offices having jurisdiction. All equipment shall comply with the requirements of all pertinent Codes and Authorities, including that of the Owner's insurance company. B. Any material or labor called for or implied in the above-mentioned requirements, even though not specified or shown on the drawings, shall be furnished and installed by the Subcontractor as though they had been specifically mentioned or indicated. If the drawings or specifications are at variance with any of the above-mentioned regulations, the bidder shall so notify the Architect in writing before signing the contract. Failure to do so shall relieve the Owner of responsibility in this regard. C. Secure and pay for any and all permits that may be necessary in connection with the installation of this work. D. The Contractor, under this section of the Specifications, shall be responsible for the supervision of his personnel at the site and the inspection of equipment and appliances provided by him to assure a safe working environment in compliance with OSHA rules and regulations. In addition, this Contractor shall report all possible violations to the General Contractor in writing, observed in areas by his personnel. Failure to do so shall constitute this Contractor's compliance of the working conditions and responsibility. This Contractor shall ascertain, from examination of the contract drawings, whether any special temporary openings in the building for the admission of apparatus furnished under this Contract will be necessary. He is required to notify the General Contractor with sufficient notice. He shall pay all costs of making all opening in case of failure to give his notification in time for the General Contractor to arrange for same during construction. This Subcontractor shall take particular care to protect any finished work from vandalism or possible injury and must remedy any and all injury caused thereto by his operation of the operations of other Subcontractors. This Subcontractor shall provide suitable protection for all equipment furnished under this contract while stored at this project site, during and after installation. This protection shall be suitable to guard equipment items against damage from the weather or from construction activities. Such protection shall not be removed until directed by the Architect. Piping and equipment shall be kept in a clean condition, free from dirt and debris. All piping and equipment items shall be thoroughly cleaned before the startup of any equipment or system 3.14: LOSS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT A. Any materials or equipment lost or damaged shall be replaced or repaired to the satisfaction of the Architect, at no additional cost to the Owner. 3.15: WIRING DIAGRAMS A. This Subcontractor shall furnish wiring diagrams for all equipment furnished under this section for which wiring is to be installed by the Electrical Subcontractor, as directed by the General Contractor (or Owner). 3.16: BASES AND SUPPORTS A. Except where noted, the Subcontractor shall provide all bases and supports not part of the building structure, of required size, type and strength, as approved by Architect, for all equipment and materials furnished by him. Equipment Identifications. 1. All equipment shall have nonferrous metallic manufacturers name plate secured. 2. When installation of equipment results in access to the name plate difficult due to obstructions and/or insulation, a new name plate containing identical information must be secured to the unit in such locations to afford easy access. The new name plate shall have all information typed on white paper, plastic laminated for weather proofing, and secured to the equipment. Each equipment shall have tag name and number stenciled on with designation as indicated on the equipment schedule using black enamel paint. 3. All equipment shall have stenciled on enamel black paint the tag numbers as assigned on the equipment schedules on locations clearly visible. B. Pipe Identification 1. Provide color coded pipe identification markers on all piping in the building installed under this Section. Pipe markers shall be heavy plastic faced cloth labels with heat resistant backing, Set Mark by Seton Nameplate Corporation, Zipper Tubing Co., or equal by the W. H. Brady Company, or equal. 2. Provide an arrow marker with each pipe content marker to indicate the direction of flow. 3. Piping mains shall be labeled at 20-foot intervals and on entrance and exit from the Mechanical Room, adjacent to each valve and at both sides of wall penetrations. This work shall be done after finish painting has been completed. 4. In general, a 2-inch-high legend shall be used for pipe lines 4-inch diameter and larger, and a 3/4 inches high legend shall be used for pipe lines 3-inch diameter and smaller. 5. All markers shall be OSHA approved. 6. In addition, all elevated pressure gas piping shall be painted yellow and all low- pressure gas piping shall be painted grey. 3.18: OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS A. This Subcontractor, upon completion of the project, shall prepare and submit to the Owner three sets Owners Manuals in a form of book binders. 1. Each set of the manuals shall contain catalog cuts, installation & maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, As-built drawings (including the schedule sheets revised to reflect actual equipment installed), and approved shop drawings. Applicable parts shall be clearly highlighted and non-applicable parts shall be clearly crossed out. 2. B. Subcontractor shall conduct an Owner training session, to be arranged so that Owners representatives and Architect be present for the session, to be conducted by the Subcontractor and his pertinent Subcontractors. 3.19: CLEANING A. All items of work shall be thoroughly cleaned in a manner suitable for the work of trades to follow. B. All work adjacent to operations under this section shall be inspected for damage and stains and repaired or cleaned prior to the completion of work. 3.20: CLEANUP A. During the progress of the work, the Subcontractor shall keep the premises clear of debris resulting from his operations and shall remove surplus and waste materials from the site daily. B. Upon completion of the work, the Subcontractor shall remove from the site all equipment and materials used on the work as well as any debris resulting from the operations. 3.21: OBJECTIONABLE NOISE & VIBRATIONS A. All equipment shall operate without objectionable noise and vibration. If such objectionable noise or vibration should be produced and transmitted to portions of the building by apparatus or other part of mechanical work, make necessary changes and additions as approved without extra cost to the owner.
