Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplemen- tary Conditions and Division-1 Specification sections, apply to work of this sec- tion. B Related Sections: The following sections contain requirements that relate to this section. 1. Section 31 00 00 – Earth Moving 2. Section 32 18 17 – Special Surfaces 3. Section 32 93 00 – Soil Preparation for Trees and Planting Beds 1.2 DESCRIPTION OF WORK A. Provide all materials, equipment and labor necessary to complete the work as in- dicated on the drawings or as specified herein. B. The principal work of this section includes, but may not be limited to, the following: 1. Layout and Excavation of Areas 2. Placement of Boulders in various landscape areas 1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. The Landscape Architect reserves the right to inspect all materials and placement of materials for compliance with specifications, and to reject unsatisfactory or defective materials and/or layout at any time during progress of work. B. Do not make substitutions without written approval. If specified landscape material is not available, obtain approval for substitution from the Landscape Architect. 1.4 SUBMITTALS A. The Contractor shall supply a list of stone sources to the Landscape Architect for approval. Landscape boulders shall be locally sources from the region of the project. More than one source is acceptable to meet the requirements as indicated in Part 2 herein. Contractor to ensure sources will accommodate texture, finish, and anticipated range of color and size as indicated herein and on the Plans. Landscape Architect will mark boulders at each source for use in particular areas of the project. Boulders excavated from project site may be used if reviewed and approved by the Landscape Architect. 1.5 PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING A. Protect all products from weather or other damaging or deteriorating conditions. B. Product will be stored in location specified by General Contractor. Boulder sizes per plans and details. B. Boulder colors shall be natural grey and tan in color. Variations in color shall be ap- proved by the Landscape Architect. C. Boulders shall be provided for various landscape areas per plan. See Figures 2.1-2.4 for photos of the range of acceptable boulder shapes and colors. Boulders that serve as retaining soil shall be angular and stackable and sawcut as necessary to provide gaps no more than three inches. E. Boulders that abut hardscape elements such as steps shall be set tight and in alignment with steps and sawcut as necessary to provide gaps no more than one inch. F. Boulder applications such as rain gardens and other landscape areas shall be rounded, natural boulders without saw cuts and all selected boulders shall look similar for a natural setting. G. Boulders from site can be re-used upon approval from Landscape Architect. Texture and finish shall be within the range of samples approved by the Landscape Architect. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 PLACEMENT OF BOULDER A. Boulder shall be placed on compacted subgrade per the drawings. B. Boulder will be placed as indicated on the plans. Specific placement of each Boulder shall be at the direction of the Landscape Architect. C. Boulder shall be buried in accordance with the drawings and details. D. After installation is complete, boulders shall be washed down and the area cleaned of sediment and debris. END OF SECTION 32 32 10 (THIS PAGE IS BLANK)
