RE: 18 Roads End
To Whom It May Concern,
We have two points to make that we hope will be of assistance to
the Conservation Commission.
1. We are related to the original owners of the property and
buildings at 18 Roads End, South Yarmouth. Walter Taylor,
a Methodist Minister, and Lucile Taylor, a schoolteacher, the
original owners are the parents of Jo Anne Taylor Gabriels,
one of the current owners of this property. You can be
assured that Reverend and Mrs. Taylor did not knowingly
seek to shortcut or attempt to subvert any requirement by the
Town of South Yarmouth when building the home on the
property, the retaining wall, and the shed. The Taylors hired
professional builders who, they presumed, would follow and
adhere to all the necessary requirements, permits etc. when
improving their property. Failure to adhere to the rules and
regulations in improving this lot is the fault of the
contractors, not the property owners.

2. My wife and I have been going to 18 Roads End since 1976
and our memory is that there has always been a beach area in
front of the retaining wall until recently. The height of the
pond, when the retaining wall was built, never reached the
wall in the initial years the Taylors owned this property. We
have supplied a picture of the wall and beach area, which was
taken, we believe, in 1986, which substantiates the
relationship of the water to the retaining wall. You will note
there is a substantial distance between the wall and the pond.
We hope you find this information helpful. Please contact us if you
have any questions or if we may be of any assistance. Thank you.
Sincerely,
JWbrielJ
