The purpose of the Site Observation Report is to record general observations of the work in progress at the time of the Architect’s visit.
WORK IN PROGRESS:
1) Steel erection, deck installation, and detailing
2) Moment welding
3) Concrete placement and placement prep by Marguerite
4) Underground plumbing work in Area B.
5) Site electrical work in general
6) Dampproofing, insulating and backfilling foundations walls at Area A
7) Ongoing survey and layout work by Brennan
8) Fenagh is on site for 3rd party rebar inspections and steel inspections.
FIELD OBSERVATIONS:
PE visited the site on 9-23, in order to review ongoing progress with the steel erection, deck installation, site work,
foundation installation, insulation installation, etc.
1. The Stellar steel erection crew, subcontractor to Norgate, is erecting steel in Area C. At the time of observation
they were erecting beams at the east link between areas C and D (lines C115 and C116 (see photo).
2. Stellar is using the west end of Area C as a laydown area.
3. Backfilling of areas A and B interior ahead of steel is ongoing (up to structural fill level). Harold Bros. has
completed underground plumbing at the future locker rooms in area B, and that area (inside the footings) has
been backfilled ahead of steel erection scheduled for next week.
4. RBO has installed dense grading to the west of Wixon courtyard (i.e. at the west-most zone between areas C and
D.)
5. Marguerite has drilled drainage holes in the footing under the skirt areas, as per GAC direction (see photo).
6. RBO has resumed footing prep in areas A and B. Footing prep this week has included interior footings at line N.4
from b4 to b7 (on 9-20), plus lines B8, B9, B12, B15, a18, a19, and a21 (on 9-21), plus wall footings at the east
side of the music wing [from a15/v to a15/V.9 (on 9-22)]. (See attached photos as well as GPI field reports.)
7. On 9-23 Marguerite had a major placement of interior footings at Area B, and also placed footings piers and
perimeter walls at the auditorium lower bowl area (including walls for the ramp). Foundation work in areas A and
B is approximately 90% complete as of this visit.
8. Foundation wall Insulation installation and backfill is ongoing; the team installed insulation and backfilled along
lines w and a.1 (west and south walls of music wing). See photos.
9. Commodore reports that on 9-27 the Stellar team will begin installing metal deck studs at the Area D level 2, and
that steel erection will proceed through the 2nd and third lifts for Area C and on to Area B.
10. As-built surveying for anchor bolts is ongoing by Brennan in Area B.

FOOTING PREPARATION:
THE SEQUENCE OF PROCEDURES ARE IDENTICAL FOR ALL INSTANCES OF PREPARATION, AND ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Excavate to six inches below proposed Bottom of Footing Elevation
Compact the exposed subgrade, Piers now revealed – with a heavy vibratory plate compactor
Place six inches of 3/4” Crushed Stone upon the Prepared Subgrade
Compact said Crushed Stone
Crushed Stone Base now ready for Footing installation
Activity for Monday, September 20th, 2021, Area “ A “
Footing Subgrade Compaction / Preparation Detail :
The soil matrix encountered at subgrade elevation largely consists of uniform sands and fine sands with scant traces of
non‐plastic silt. Therefore, the proper in‐situ compaction of this material is largely dependent on the relative moisture
content of the soil. Since the encountered materials are of native, (natural) deposition the water content can vary from
location to location. Each situation must be evaluated to determine that the proper soil compaction techniques are
utilized vis‐à‐vis the moisture content of the soil. In other words, it may be necessary to moisten some areas with
supplied water in order to certify proper compaction in these circumstances.
