The purpose of the Site Observation Report is to record general observations of the work in progress at the time of the Architect’s visit.
WORK IN PROGRESS:
1) Steel erection, deck installation, and detailing.
2) Backfilling; insulation installation
3) Grouting column bases in area D
4) Underground electrical work in areas C and A
5) Underground plumbing work in Area A.
6) Plumbing steel; ongoing survey work by Brennan
7) Fenagh is on site for 3rd party rebar inspections, steel inspections, and welding inspections.
FIELD OBSERVATIONS:
PE visited the site on 10-14, in order to review ongoing progress with the steel erection, deck installation, site work, etc.
1. RBO is backfilling and compacting the interior of area B in order to create a working surface ahead of steel
erection (see photos); RBO is also installing foundation insulation and backfilling around the building in areas B
and A. The drainage work in the Mattacheese courtyard are finished and the area has been backfilled.
2. Foundation work is now complete. Earlier in the day Marguerite completed the last foundation concrete
installation (sono tubes for the framing at the exterior “stage area”—see photo). Formwork for other placements
has been stripped, and Marguerite is de-mobilizing on the site.
3. The column bases in area D were grouted on the 13th and 14th, in advance of a composite deck placement
scheduled for next week (see photo).
4. The under-slab VB has been placed at the auditorium lower bowl area in preparation for slab pour next week.
5. Stellar has completed steel erection at areas C and D and at the Area B gymnasium, including all of the roof
framing (bar joists and trusses), and at the time of observation the crew was erecting steel at the central part of
area B (see photo). The decking crew was installing steel roof deck at the “link” between Areas C and D, and
preparing to install floor deck at the links to area B (see photo). The detailing crew was working in Area C.
6. Commodore reports that fine grading for the slab on grade at Area D will be done next week and the SOG will be
placed during the week of November 1st. United, the misc.metal subcontractor, is set to mobilize next week.
7. Underground conduit placement by Annese is ongoing at Area C; stub ups at the electrical room appear complete
(see photos).
8. Brennan’s work on site is ongoing; they are currently plumbing up the gymnasium frame.
9. The aluminum windows have been installed at the exterior wall mockup, and caulked etc. PE observed that the
contractors omitted the setting angles and the “membrane sill flashing with end dams” that are indicated at the
window sills. PE does not consider this a conforming condition.PE met with the Peerless rep., Dennis Speer, and
he represented that as installed in the mockup—in the absence of a sill pan--the silicone sealant beads that are
visible in the corners of the plastic thermal breaks at the bottom of the window frame are what would prevent
water from leaking into the sill if the windows are left open.
