There is conflicting information about the history of the house. The Form B information in MAORIS appears not to be correct, however the information in the Yarmouth Old Homes and Gathering Places publication seems to be most likely when compared to the Yarmouth Assessors data which lists Mabel Kittredge as a previous owner. From what I gather, the house originated in Dennis as a small fisherman's cottage which in the early 1900's was disassembled, moved and rebuilt in Yarmouth. it may have been moved a second time to its current location in the early 1910's. Today, on a hunch, I did a Google search of a quote from the Old Homes and Gathering Places entry and discovered a book titled Remodeled Farmhouses by Mary H. Northend published in 1915. Chapter III of this book talks about " The Kitteridge House" and includes pictures of this house. I printed and attached the pertinent pages from this book. It is my hope to obtain clarification on the home's history from the current owner, Eleanor Acheson prior to the visit. I believe that David Murphy is going to speak to her as well. -Beth Beth Vozella Office Administrator Yarmouth OKH Committee/Historical Commission Town of Yarmouth 1146 Route 28, South Yarmouth, MA 02664-4451 Tel: 508-398-2231 X 1292 Fax: 508-398-0836 From: John Duggan [mailto:ba viewca ecod comcast.net] Sent: Tuesday, April 18, 2017 5:17 PM To: Vozella, Beth Subject: Re: 170 Pleasant St. - Need to Schedule Site Visit Beth ....... the 26th at 3pm works for me and I've added it to my calendar. Do we get to see the inside of the house on that day? Does David Murphy have any information on how old the house is and where it came from, assuming it was moved there from some other site? Or maybe it was built right where it is today. We want to better understand the process for permitting. Can we discuss this in detail tomorrow? I am available by phone to discuss 508-280-6730 We want to make sure we are on right track so we can move forward as soon as possible. There is a very small section of main house that was built and shipped over early 1900's (under 500sf) then the dwelling was added on to in different eras as the previous family found fit. I have done a full home inspection of the main house (2013) and there is nothing of value to salvage. What is the purpose of a demo permit through the Historical Commission if the whole house is being knocked down? Looking forward to your call. Thanks in advance for your help.
