Significance: Deed search reveals that in December 1881, saltworks owner
Isaiah Homer sells to James A. Baker a lot four rods by ten
rods…upon which the dwelling house and outbuildings owned
by Henry Baker now stand. This existing lot and buildings were
the first buildings to be built upon land formerly used for salt
manufacturing. (BCRD, Bk. 140:507)
Mitigating
circumstances
Fire has ravaged the house on this property. According to the
owner Tom Grew, his insurance company conveyed the
dwelling is a total loss.
Other
developments
An architectural drawing has been produced that captures the
basic character defining features and architecture of the house
when it was built.
Conclusion: The proposed conclusion by the Yarmouth Historic Commission
is to not invoke further demo – delay and allow the demolition
and new construction according to the architectural drawings.
