I certify that I understand the following requirements regarding any changes that may
be required for this project:
In accordance with paragraph 2(a) of section 1.03(General Procedures) of the OKH 972
CMR Rules and Regulations: Only minor changes may be approved by the Committee
without the filing of a new application and a new hearing. Minor changes include
alterations that can be done without a detrimental impact on the overall appearance of
the project such as altering a single window or door change or a minor change of
colors. All minor changes by amendment will require the local Committee's or its

All changes to previously OKH approved plans require notification to and approval

Subject: Letter of support for Thacher Hall sign
Dear Lisa:
My apologies. I fear I may have missed the deadline but I wanted to add my support for the sign change for
the Yarmouth New Church/Thacher Hall.
I lived on Route 6A in Yarmouth Port for 40 years and watched as the New Church went from shabby to
spectacular. However, the organization has really struggled with the name of the building -- which is now a
community center and no longer a church. Changing the name to Thacher Hall and having a handsome sign
that lets the community know that this is a beautiful space open to all is very important for the future use and
preservation of the building. I hope the Old King's Highway Committee will give it serious consideration and
their endorsement.
Thank you.

Subject: Letter in support of new sign at Yarmouth New Church Building
Dear Members of the Board of the Old Kings Highway Commission.
I write in support of the proposed change in signage at the former Swedenborgian Church on Route 6A in
Yarmouth Port, more recently known as the New Church. As someone who has been with the project of
restoration of this historic building from the very beginning I can attest to the fact that the name has always
been problematic in getting people to understand it is no longer a church. Obviously, the edifice will always
dictate its former use as a church building. It needs a new name and a new sign to inform people it is now a
place for community events, concerts, theatre, lectures, etc.
I urge you to permit the change of signage so that Thacher Hall can be known as a performance venue.

Description of Proposed Work
As the New Church continues to serve as a center for community events, there is
confusion as to its previous role as a religious building. Both visitors and resi-
dents are not clear that it is a public space where all are welcome. The board has
enthusiastically decided to call the non demoninational space Thacher Hall, a
reference to the historic Yarmouth Port family's legacy. A new sign is proposed
with the name Thacher Hall. The new sign is proposed perpendicular to the street.
It will list "Thacher Hall" and have space for event lists, as we do on our present
sign. It will be two sided. The colors for the frame, panel field and accents are
taken from the historic OKH palette ( white frame OC -17, accent trim HC -181
and sign panip field HC -6) The accent color CC -920 is a reference to the historic
field color of the incredible historic interiors. It is a smoky cool grey working
well with the OKH palette. The letters in the sign will be V -cut and hand painted
filled with color CC -920. This will provide enough contrast for visibility, but also
be elegant, a bit softer than a black on white solution. The words " Thacher Hall"
will be complimented by hand painted graphics in HC -44, as shown in the eleva-
tions. They are simple tendrils copied from details of the interior ceiling paint-
ings. The goal is to create a simple sign that represe xyle of historic 6A
and integrates the hand craft of the building. APPRO ._ ._j !
SITE
APR 11 2022

The proposal is to keep the sign with the gothic arched top and use it for perma-
nent graphics with historic information about the New Church and Common.
The sign will be relocated closer to the building, which it is designed to mimic,
to avoid visual clutter at the street. The goal is to use it for pedestrians to access
information about the building and the historic common. Since the graphic layout
of this panel requires research and design, we are asking that the concept be ap-
proved, so we can move forward with the new Thacher Hall sign for an unveil-
ing in June and proceed with the design of the historic panel. We can return for
review of the historic info, if desired. The historic information will be designed
to be pedestrian friendly ( not meant to be read from a vehicle), designed profes-
sionally and in keeping with the historic nature of the site. It will help visitors and
residents appreciate this wonderful building and the historic Common.
