OVERVIEW OF STORMWATER MANAGEMENT
SYSTEM:
The drainage system specified for proposed widened driveway have been designed in
accordance with Town of Yarmouth Subdivision Rules and Regulations and engineering
department guidelines. The system has been designed to comply with the Stormwater
Stormwater Management Guidelines. The Wetlands Regulations, 310 CMR 10.04. The Water
Quality Certification Regulations, 314CMR 9.02, define environmentally sensitive site design to
mean design that incorporates low impact development techniques to prevent the generation of
stormwater and non -point source pollution by reducing impervious surfaces, disconnecting flow
paths, treating stormwater at its source, etc. all of which is accomplished with the current design.
The system utilizes low impact stormwater design including reduced width pervious gravel
surfaces, and grass lined drainage swales with check dams to enhance infiltration and treat the
stormwater onsite. The proposed use is a typical single family residence, so is not a "Land Use
with Higher Potential Pollutant Load" per the State Stormwater Management Guidelines, so
onsite infiltration is utilized. The underlying material is sandy loam per the soil borings done in
the roadway. The grass swales will provide pretreatment and infiltration, and the areas upstream
of the check dams will work as small rain gardens to infiltrate the stormwater in the shoulders.
During construction, the installation of a silt fence near the downgradient border provide full
protection of the resource areas. The erosion control fence is to be inspected after every rain
event and is to be maintained until the site is stabilized.
The system is designed to contain and infiltrate storm events onsite and provide the required
Total Suspended Solids (TSS) removal mandated by the State Stormwater Management
Guidelines.
Best Management Practices incorporated in the project are as follows:
-Grass Channel/biofilter swale (50% TSS Removal)
-Rain Gardens /areas at checks (90% TSS Removal)

SCHEDULE OF INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE OF
STORMWATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM:
SCHEDULE OF INSPECTION AND MAINTENANCE:
The stormwater management system proposed for the site requires regular inspection and
maintenance to ensure proper operation and effectiveness.
1. It is recommended that the stormwater system proposed for the site be inspected twice
annually, on or about November 15t' and April 15t' of each year, and sediment removed
from areas upstream of check dams as needed. The inspection should involve physical
inspection of the swales and check dams for sediment buildup and inspecting the aprons
for solids carryover. If significant solids are found in the check dam areas, the silt shall
be mechanically cleaned and the sediment disposed of offsite in compliance with all
local, state, and federal regulations. If standing water is observed in the bottom of the
bioinfiltration areas, any fines shall be removed and the bottom scarified to increase
infiltration as needed to prevent standing water more than 72 hours after a rain event.
2. Any noted erosion in the swales or at check dam aprons shall be repaired by addition of
soil with erosion control netting or additional traprock and filter fabric as required to
maintain the integrity of the drainage system. Any shoulder rutting shall be filled and
grass reestablished to provide a dense cover.
3. Shoulders should be mowed at least twice annually to prevent woody growth in the grass
lined swales. The shoulder swales shall be maintained with a healthy growth of New
England Erosion Control Mix grasses, and mow height shall be between four and six
inches in height. Light fertilizer and occasional watering during times of drought may be
required.
4. Shoulder swales shall be maintained at the minimum 3" to 4" design depth, and any
siltation which reduces the cross section shall be raked up and removed, and leaves and
branches shall be removed in the late fall.
5. Snow removal shall either utilize a snow blower to remove snow clear of the side swales,
or snow which is plowed to the sides shall be hand shoveled out upstream of each check
dam to prevent bypass by snowmelt. (2'x3' area min.). Checks shall each be witnessed
with fiberglass reflector marker for ease in location during the winter months.

system. Owner and any onsite workers should be instructed in proper disposal of any cleaning
materials, paints, chemicals, or other potentially harmful substances utilized on or about the
property.
