BOARD OF APPEALS
Town of Yarmouth Zoning Board of Appeals
We live at 25B Parkwood Road. We are aware that there is a petition for employee housing to
be created at 33-37 Seaside Village Road.
There are some concerns we have with this and would like them to be known to the Zoning
Board.
The traffic this will create on our small low speed road will be increased. As we already
saw this summer with this as a temporary solution. The amount of traffic and speed
violations were more than we have seen in the past years.
The employees have already shown a disregard for the neighbors by speeding up and
down our road at various times of the day, having loud music play at all times of the day
from the building as well as their cars, and not slowing down for other cars or
pedestrians in the road.
As the road is small and really only passable by one car at a time we have witnessed
many cars disregard the owners property and drive up onto our property rather than slow
down and wait for a passing car.
The current condition of the motel is not appealing to anyone walking or driving by. The
improvements began but have not been finished which now makes the curb appeal
worse. This in turn brings down values of the local areas and puts into question if they
will ever be completed if this appeal is approved.
The activities that these employees are participating in (openly smoking in the street and
parking areas, loud music, etc) are a concern for families in the area as children and
families frequent the area as well as visiting vactioners.
The Skipper is a local well run business and having employee housing there with
employees that don't respect the area is detrimental to their business.
The increased volume of non paying employees for housing creates more trash,
disregard for neighbors, and decreases the faith tax paying residents have in the town
departments.
The speed limit is presumed as it is neighborhood, but with seeing the speeding that has
been happening it is the hope that with this increased volume of traffic the town would
put up speed limit signs and patrol the area more often.
With the increased volume of cars, as it is unknown if there will be a limit to the amount
of cars that the employees can park on the premises, we feel there should be no parking
signs put into place at the corner of Seaside Village Rd in front of the The Skipper
Parking area to the corner of South Shore Drive as well as along the fenced area
through the parking lot of The Skipper as well as the side of the street close to the
parking lot for Seaside Villages. Additionally at the `island' where Parkwood Road begins
Finally we feel that with the increase in volume of traffic that it should be considered by
the Town to make Parkwood Road a one way street
