HomeMy WebLinkAbout4979 33-37 Seaside Village Letter of Opposition 5RECEIVED October 10, 2022 OCT 112022 Dear Yarmouth Board of Appeals, YARMOUTH BOARD OF APPEALS We are writing to voice our concerns over the appeal from SHORESIDE PROPERTIES LLC at 33-37 Seaside Village Road South Yarmouth Ma to create 100%seasonal housing at the current Village Green Motel. We have many concerns regarding the management and maintenance of this already dilapidated property. It has already been in poor condition, and we feel that if this appeal is allowed to be approved by the town of Yarmouth that it will only contribute to the downward slope of the property. This is prime real estate property across the street from the ocean and beach area and next to the well-known Skipper Restaurant. The Shore Road strip has always attracted a lot of visitors to the area due to the beach and pleasant surrounding environment. We are concerned that turning the motel into what would basically be a dorm for seasonal workers will tear down the welcoming and pleasant area that visitors have enjoyed over many years. It will become even more of an eyesore than it already is, to the beach area on Shore Road. Is this how the town of Yarmouth wants to present this prime property area? We have witnessed this past summer many trips by the Red Jacket Resorts minivan picking up and dropping off workers at this motel. The residents tend to hang around drinking, smoking, partying, and leaving their trash around the property. This will attract all kinds of animals and rodents to the area. Who is going to be overseeing the management of the property? Will they be on site to immediately deal with issues when they come up?A cornerstone of responsible rental management is keeping a close watch on the property. This seasonal worker clientele is not the same as renting motel rooms to families and others who come to enjoy this beachside resort area. This is NOT the right location for 100%seasonal worker housing. We strive to be good neighbors and to be conscious of what is and isn't acceptable with the goal to protect the character of the neighborhood. We feel It would be a big mistake to think this will be of any benefit to the neighborhood or town to allow this appeal to be approved. Additionally, we are not quite sure why someone would invest money into the purchase of a motel on this well-known strip of land only to allow it to be used for the purposes of housing seasonal workers and not be properly maintained. It appears that the new owner doesn't want to put what's required into the property to get it to a level that motel guests would want to stay in it as a motel and it's easier for this owner to just house seasonal workers who don't really care as much about the quality/condition of the building. We feel that the level of upkeep and management of the property in that situation will not fit into the respected surroundings and what has been known to draw many visitors to this area. We can look to the old Windjammer hotel down the street a bit on Shore Road that has recently been remodeled and updated to the now Bluebird Parker Beach Lodge as a good example of the type of neighbor we would expect this area to draw. Please DON'T allow Shoreside Properties to proceed with this plan and tear down our quaint beachside area by approving this appeal to house 100% seasonal workers at 33-37 Seaside Village Road. With respect, Mark and Nancy Barbieri 10 South West Dr South Yarmouth, MA 02664
