BOARD OF APPEALSRe: 33-37 Seaside Village Road - Petition 4979
We are writing to express our strong opposition to the proposed rezoning
at 33-37 Seaside Village Road in South Yarmouth.
Our home directly abuts the Village Green Motel - we are the first home
after the motel. We have lived at 63 Parkwood Road since 2000 and we
have never had any problems when Beverly and Paul Hart owned the
property.
Not only did they own it, they lived there as well. The motel was kept up,
painted when it needed painting and had very neat and beautiful grounds.
Beverly loved her flowers). They had a maintenance crew working year
round to maintain the property, and they kept all problems, if any,
contained and never let things get out of control.
Now, on the other hand since the new owners purchased the motel it has
gone to Hell! The paint on the exterior cabins is chipping, the motel is in a
state of almost total dilapidation, and the grounds look like an abandoned
city park. The empty pool is not only ugly, but it creates a health
mosquitos) and danger hazard. It is an open hole in the ground, and
between parties and drunken fools it is just a matter of time before some
catastrophe occurs. We never had a problem with cars speeding or loud
noise until this past summer (cars travel on the road that loops around
the back of the motel that abuts our property like they are driving on the
highway, and the late night noise was unbearable at times.)
In addition to the lack of care and consideration shown by the motel
residents, all summer long they were storing stuff outside of their rooms
and covering it with plastic bags and tape.
For the first time since living here, we considered putting a fence up, but
that would block the ocean breeze. We spend most of our time on the
back deck (large family), and now we feel we cannot enjoy the deck
because of the added noise and danger.
We were going to complain to the Town on several occasions, but we
wanted to give the new owners time to get their act together but that
never happened.
With all the negative impact this is having on our quiet little family
neighborhood, why would we think the new owners will keep this
property up any better in the future? If the past is any indicator of their
values we know the answer. It's only going to get worse.
The new owners of The Village Green have to learn to live within the
Zoning they purchased. The neighborhood is unanimously opposed to
the changes they have proposed.
We strongly oppose any rezoning or variance(s) requested.
Thank you,
Ralph and Nadine Barry
