RE: Shoreside Properties LLC,Petition 4979
We are writing to express our strong opposition to Shoreside Properties' above-mentioned petition to create
100%seasonal employee housing at their property on 33-37 Seaside Village Road in South Yarmouth.
We'll outline our reasons for the opposition to the petition.
Safety of the neighborhood children. Many children, including our grandchildren, walk down the
street to the beach and to Skippers for ice cream. This summer a Red Jacket shuttle was constantly at
the hotel picking up or dropping off workers from the Red Jacket Resort(as indicated by their
shirts). Cars are parked on both sides of the street, and the shuttle is causing additional congestion and
safety hazards to an already very busy area during the summer months.
Neighborhood property values will decrease. We are considering listing our property for sale in the
future as the house has become too big for us. We listed it in March 2020 for$1.3M,but removed it
from the market because of Covid. After speaking with some local realtors, the feedback we are
receiving is that it will negatively affect our property value if this petition is approved.
Hotel is an eyesore to the neighborhood. While the hotel was in need of renovations before
Shoreside Properties purchased it,since April the property and its grounds have deteriorated
further. Windows of the hotel facing the street have curtains half falling off, screens removed and
stuffed with cloth to retrofit air conditioners, and window sills stuffed with food and other personal
items. Previous hotel owners always kept a beautiful garden full of summer flowers and had
landscapers pruning the shrubs. This year the beautiful garden was full of weeds and no landscaping
was done this summer.
Loud noise and music coming from the hotel residents. There is only one lot between our property
and the hotel and we could hear loud noise and music coming from the hotel at night. Prior years,
when it was operated as a hotel,we never had any noise complaints.
In closing, when we heard that there were new owners of the Village Green,we were hoping to see major
renovations to the property, similar to what was done to the old Wind Jammer Hotel on Shore Drive. We're
very disappointed that the new owner wants to create 100%seasonal employee housing and keep the property
in its dilapidated condition. We would totally support a complete renovation of the property for either a hotel
or condominiums. All the hotels and restaurants in this beautiful seaside area are beautifully maintained and
operated, except Shoreside Properties. Please do not approve this petition as it will certainly impact our
property values,our children's safety,and our beautiful,peaceful neighborhood environment.
Respectfully,
