I did some more research on the doors and found that we (the full committee) approved the existing
doors in 2015.
Actually, the new ones will look better.
Please tell Matt that I approve and am sorry it took longer than he expected.

The real problem is that this house was built in 1746 according to the COE
form. It is listed as 1780 in our book of historic homes and was owned by
Joseph B. Hall at a later date. I understand the cost difference, but do we
try to keep historic houses looking like they did 200 years ago or cover
them up with cheap blankets?
Maybe this should go to the committee.

Sent your write-up about the doors to the window/door
rep, and this is his response:
I understand what the chair is saying. The homeowner may have
looked at replacement, but I believe the door opening is a custom
size opening. The shear cost of replacement may have proven cost
prohibitive. I personally looked into a set of double doors for
myself and was shocked by the price (and my opening is a standard
size). As for our storm doors, they will closely match what is there.
Our aluminum may even have a smaller profile than the existing
doors. At least they aren't trying to use the storm doors that have
self -storing glass and screen or large bright brass handles and brass
strips on the bottom of the doors (the style of doors bought at the
big box stores). Our storm doors are boring, no frills, but
sometimes necessary (protection and insulation) when full
replacement is not an option at the time. Thank you for your
consideration. We appreciate it. Hope this makes sense.

I don't remember when the existing storm
doors were installed and since this is a simple
replacement it is hard to not approve.
However, I would not like to have seen storm
doors like these put at the front entry which
originally had much more character. The doors
are probably low R value. They could have
been replaced with high R value units and no
storm doors and kept the character. I suspect
the front door is almost never used anyway.
Their new fence will hopefully hide the storm
doors.
My thoughts on this project.
