"Dear Chairman DeYoung:
I am aware of the hearing which is taking place tonight before the Zoning Board of Appeals
regarding the application of Shoreside Properties, LLC for a Special Permit at 33-37 Seaside
Village Road. I am unavailable to attend either in person or via ZOOM, but as the owner, along
with my wife, of the Skipper Restaurant, we wanted to provide you with our position on the
relief being sought. First, we have absolutely no objection to the granting of the Special
Permit. As neighbors this summer, we were never impacted by the use of the property for Red
Jacket employees. We did not experience any increase in noise or traffic based on the use of the
property for this kind of housing. We certainly did not see any change from the time it was
used as a motel. Second, as a small business, we see the absolute necessity of finding good
housing for employees, which is a struggle for all businesses in Yarmouth and across the
Cape. The availability of reliable employees for the approximate 4 months that our tourists are
here is a constant battle, and it continues to be a problem. Without other solutions provided to
our local business by the Town, this Bylaw seems to be a possible short term, and temporary,
answer. Finally, we have worked hard over the years to be mindful of our residential
neighbors. When we sought to expand our second floor deck, we wanted the neighborhood to
be able to call us if there was any issue. Over the years, our rapore with them has
strengthened. We believe that the same kind of relationship will develop with the current
owners of the motel, who are working to repair and improve it.
Again, we support the Special Permit, and do not think it will be detrimental to the
neighborhood or town. In fact, we believe that the service it provides to the motels along South
Shore Drive will only be an improvement to the current housing problem, and allow those
businesses to continue to provide a memorable tourist experience to our visitors.
