Town of Yarmouth Zoning Board of Appeals re: Petition 5003
1146 Rte 28
South Yarmouth, MA 02664
Good Afternoon:
As a summer resident of South Yarmouth since 1969, I am very
saddened to learn about the proposed park and boardwalk through
Parker's River Marsh. For years this has been a pristine place to
go to sit and enjoy the serenity of nature; one of the only places
left in South Yarmouth stall untouched by humans.
If one sits long enough, one is in for a treat. At low tide, one
may be able to see the blue heron cautiously walk across the
meandering river to visit its companion, or watch the osprey dive
down into the river and triumphantly come up with its dinner. It
is there in the marsh that they also have their nests. Egrets by
the dozen, also live there. Ducks, swans and sea gulls inhabit the
area too. If lucky you may espy in the marsh in the distance, the
fox. All of this wildlife will gradually disappear. Even the
noise of a kayak paddle chases them away. Imagine how they would
react to all of the activity up and down the boardwalk. Needless
to say as the environment and ecological systems begins to change
the fish, turtles and other river denizen will be adversely
affected.
If the Town's purpose is to make South Yarmouth more attractive to
tourists, it seems that leaving this special spot and the
environment untouched is the best bet. It is my hope that my
children and grandchildren can continue to enjoy the serenity of
the marsh, the meandering river and its wildlife as well as to
just sit take deep breaths, quietly fish, and watch a magnificent
sunset!
Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
Judy Lass
