No Historical Significance
Dear Yarmouth Historical Commission and Cape Cod Commission,
My name is Anthony Penny. My family and I are the former - and most recent owners since 1993 - of
the house at 331 Union Street, Bass River, South Yarmouth up until the time of our recent sale of this
property to Martin T. Reilly and his Family on November 15 - of last year - 2022 .
My father and our family bought the home in 1993 and owned the home for approximately 30 Years.
Prior to our family buying this home - we were informed at the time of our purchase - that the entire
house had been completely renovated, modified, updated and modernized by the former owners as far
back as 1973 .
In addition - in 1991 the home was damaged by Hurricane Bob - due to its proximity to the Water on
Bass River - and was further renovated and updated at that time. Over the period of our families 30 year
ownership - we also did several periodic upgrades and renovations to the home - installing new
Hardwood Floors as recently as last year.
During the entire period of our Penny Family ownership - and the several renovations we did to the
property - as well as the substantial and complete renovations, alterations and modernization done to
the home over the past 50 years - as done by our family and previous owners - there was never any
discussion or comments made by anyone - to us - or the previous owners that the house was historic
and the substantial improvements and modifications that were made by us and previous owners to the
house and garage -should not be allowed or done to the house - because our home was a " Historic
House "
The house at 331 Union Street, Bass River - as sold to Martin T Reilly and his Family - as the new owners
of the property -under the name of 331 Union Street Realty Trust, Bass River is completely modern -as

reflected in the numerous pictures of the property which were taken - when the property was listed for
sale.
Accordingly - based on these facts - demonstrating that the modern house as modified, renovated, and
altered - is not historical - and has no historical significance- and also that the existing house is located
in a Flood Zone Area - and with Climate Change - and Rising Sea Levels - the structural integrity of the
existing house - is now compromised - and could affect the safety of the Reilly Family living in the
existing structure - I respectfully ask that you allow Martin T Reilly and his Family as the new owners - to
demolish the existing modern home -" non historical home" -without delay - and allow them to proceed
to build the new flood compliant house they have designed and received approvals to build from the
Yarmouth Conservation Commission and Yarmouth Zoning Board of Appeals - without any undue delay
which would cause an undue financial hardship on him and his family.
