Re: Petition 5019: Maria Curtis, dba Lightning Speed Go -Karts

To the Members of the Zoning Board of Appeals:
RECEIVED
MAY 99 2023
YARMOUTH
BOARD OF APPEALS
My wife and I have owned our condo at Buck Island Village since 2014. We write to
oppose Petition 5019, submitted by Maria Curtis, dba Lightning Speed Go -Karts.
At the time that we purchased our condo, the property of the petitioner (228 Route 28)
featured a restaurant, which had no impact on the quality of life at Buck Island Village.
The petitioner's plan to build and operate a go-cart race trac will have a major impact on
the quality of life for those of us residing at Buck Island Village. Petitioner seeks a Special
Permit under use section N I 1 and a Special Permit under use section 301.2 (Buffer trees).
Petitioner has not sought a Special Permit under section N 10 (outdoor recreation).
The noise pollution caused by petitioner's operating 8 gas powered go-karts, each
producing 70-75 decibels of sound, seven days a week for 12 hours per day (1 Oam-1 Opm in the
summer) will be excessive, interfere with the peaceful enjoyment of our property and negatively
impact the value of our property. The petitioner has failed to submit any appropriate plan for
noise mitigation.
Aside from the excessive noise level created by 8 gas powered go-karts seven days a
week for 12 hours per day, no consideration has been made for the environmental pollution
resulting from their use.
Likewise, no consideration appears to have been made by the petitioner for using
electric go-karts, in lieu of gas powered go-karts. Electric go-karts would likely mitigate the
hazard of both noise and air pollution.
The Petitioner has failed to submit a noise analysis and air quality study of the impact of
operating 8 gas powered go-carts, each producing 70-75 decibels of noise, 12 hours per day.
For all the above reasons, 1 urge the Members of the Zoning Board of Appeals to deny
the application of the Petitioner.
Sincerely,
