Board of appeals,

YARMOUTH
BOARD OF APPEALS
My name is Ralph Decker and my fiance, Cindy Thompson, live in Buck Island Village, Unit 15E,
West Yarmouth.
We are opposed to the Go Kart track for many reasons.
1. Noise. The peace and quiet of our unit will be disrupted by the noise of the go carts, which
according to the applicant,
create approximately 70-75 decibels of sound, EACH. With up to 8 carts on the track at a time, it will
be very loud.
2. The abutters include several hotels and resorts. How many people will want to be relaxing at the
resort and listening to the sound of several go carts disturbing their peace. If the hotels/resorts start to
lose business, who is going to help them.?
3. We can hear music from the Cove, which is further away than the track. Sound travels right across
Route 28 and the cranberry bog. The music is pleasant, lawnmower noise is NOISE.
4. The nearby restaurants will be adversely affected by the track.
5. Nearby homeowners will see their property values decrease (including mine).
6. There is a track behind Skull Island Golf Course. Is there enough demand for 2?
7. Dennis has a track, Harwich has a track. Neither is close to residential areas.
8. Skull Island's track is not in the heart of our tourist hotels/resorts.
9. The intent is to make this a "year round experience". Is there a market for this? Would you buy a
property knowing it would be exposed to the sound of "6 to 8 lawnmowers" racing year round?
10. What about the wildlife that lives in the wetlands and cranberry bog?. What happens to them with
the noise?
11. Is their any consideration for the effect on the air quality of 8-10 extra gas engines running non
stop?
12. 1 know we need more commerce to help our tax base. This business, in this location, will drive
business away and decrease property values. Please REJECT this.
Sincerely,
Ralph Decker and Cindy Thompson
